Obituary of Herb Siegele
In Loving Memory of Herbert 'Herb' Siegele
Herb Siegele passed from this life on November 3, 2024, at the age of 87, in Wadena, SK. Herbert Frederick Siegele was born on May 22, 1937 to Frederick and Mary Siegele who farmed near Leader, Sask. Herb was the 6th of 7 children. As a young man Herb proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, worked in the oil patch and at Medalta Pottery in Medicine Hat, AB. In 1960, Herb married Violet Brost of Leader, SK. They settled in Fox Valley, SK where they had 2 children, Kent and Lorna. Herb ran the Liquor Store in Fox Valley until its closing in 1967. The Siegele Family then moved to Strasbourg, SK where Herb managed the Liquor Store until Sask Liquor Board closed it in 1969. Herb then transferred to the Pasqua Liquor Store in Regina and the family relocated to Lumsden, SK. In 1972 Herb accepted a transfer to Wadena, SK, where the family settled. A second daughter, Dixie, was born shortly after moving to Wadena. In 1977 Violet became ill and was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. Violet passed away in May 1978.
In 1980 Herb met his soul mate Sherri (Paulson) Malischewski. On January 27, 2007 Herb and Sherri were married. Herb and Sherri were true life partners, with many common interests and a love for one another that radiated respect and commitment. Together, they enjoyed going to auction sales, visiting antique collectors, attending Ducks Unlimited banquets, Fowl Suppers, gardening, canning, cooking and going for many drives to see the country.
Herb bought land and farmed in the Kuroki, Sheho, and Lintlaw areas, but it was his farm near Preeceville, SK that he loved the most. Herb was a passionate antique collector for over 50 years. He travelled to auction sales all across Saskatchewan and neighboring provinces. Herb was well known and made many friends, wherever he went. He enjoyed visiting with fellow collectors, learning about antiques and sharing his knowledge. Herb enjoyed 31 years of retirement. He was a passionate outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and gardener. Over the years, his elk, mule deer, white tailed deer, and Canada geese won him many awards. Herb’s name is in the record books for many Saskatchewan species. Herb perfected his own sausage making recipes and processed full animals to his perfection. He canned 100's of jars of tomatoes and tomato juice every year. He also made his signature pickles that he and Sherri, together spent many hours processing. His gardens were large and plentiful, rows and rows of garlic, and radishes galore, the harvest which he shared with many. He spent many hours snowmobiling and ice fishing with friends. Herb loved to gather with his buddies, sharing pickles, cheese, sausage and a vodka while solving the worlds problems. Herb was always there for his family and never judged or told family what to do, but instead always had wise words of wisdom that guided them to making the right decision. He will be missed by all, and the memories of him will forever be in our hearts.
Herb leaves to mourn: his loving wife Sherri Siegele; his children - Kent (Nolan) Siegele of Qu’Appelle, SK, Lorna(Tony) Tessier of Victoria, BC, Dixie (Ed) Finch of Saskatoon, SK, and Chad (Lana) Malischewski of Rockglen, SK.; his grandchildren - Kendra (Catlin) Callighan of White City, SK, Karter (Kristina) Siegele of Qu’Appelle, SK, Blake (Emily) Tessier of Victoria, BC, Tyler Adams of Osler, SK, Taylor (Lucas) Peters of Aberdeen, SK, Brooke Malischewski of Moose Jaw, SK, Julia Malischewski and Ethan Malischewski of Estevan, SK.; his great-grandchildren - Madison Callighan, Keaton Siegele, Elliot, Baxter and Watson Tessier, and Tuxton Peters; his sisters - Elsie Wenzel of Leader, SK, Esther Leipert of Kindersley, SK, and Jean (Ron) Wenzel of Victoria, BC. as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
