Obituary
Gerald Joseph Holowaty was born at the Foam Lake Union Hospital on November 2, 1949 to parents George and Sophie Holowaty (nee Scherbey). He lived on a farm in the Hazel area, south of Foam Lake, where he also attended school until Grade 5. They then moved to a farm off the Malby Road. After completing his education in Foam Lake, he left home to seek work in Sudbury, Ontario and in Thompson, Manitoba in the underground mine. He then returned in the early 1970’s to start farming. He bought a farm close to home where he resided his entire life – his happy place. Gerald was united in marriage to Janet Litwin on August 18, 1973, at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Foam Lake. They were blessed with three wonderful daughters; Rachel, Rhonda and Renee. They farmed south of Foam Lake until the decision to rent the land out in 2010. Gerald worked hard on the farm and loved it, even at the end of a long day, he would greet his family with that smile that lit up a room. Gerald also worked off of the farm, holding various positions in the oil field, and even a little stint with Rioch Construction, which he took much pride in. He met so many wonderful people in his travels, some becoming life long friends. Gerald served as Reeve in the RM of Foam Lake for 16 years, from 1992 – 2008. He was very committed and always said he learned a lot along the way. He valued his experiences with the RM and frequently shared these stories. Gerald had many hobbies. He was an avid reader. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, and going for daily drives. He loved nature and had a passion for the outdoors. The simplicities of life are what Gerald thrived on. Anyone that knew Gerald would recognize the kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty, humility, and friendly nature of this man. He always made others feel special and enriched others’ lives. After a conversation with Gerald, people left feeling better. It was never about him. Gerald was a God fearing man. He loved his church and the church family. He served as Palamar for decades and even had “Gerald’s room” named after him in the church. Gerald would be happiest being remembered by all who knew him as a man that dearly loved his “bride” and daughters, who demonstrated that his family came first and was never happier than when sharing time with them. Gerald and Janet were an example of a life long and faith filled devotion to one another. He has left us all with incredible memories and we know that he has loved us enough to last until we meet again. Gerald was predeceased by his father George in 1988, his mother Sophie in 2017, his father in law Matt Litwin in 2015, his brother in law Joe Cymbalisty in 2012, and his paternal and maternal grandparents. Gerald leaves to be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 47 years, Janet, their children; Rachel Card (Al), Rhonda Wasyluk (Jeff), Renee Wilson (Sean), his siblings; Anonny Holowaty (Rita), Irene Cymbalisty, Diana Holowaty, Kelvin Holowaty, Ralph Holowaty (Angela), his mother in law, Olga Litwin, in laws; Theresa Litwin, Lucianna Litwin, Murray Litwin (Crystal), Jeannie Litwin (Jeff) and numerous nieces and nephews. May his beautiful soul rest in peace! Vichnaya Pamnyat!
