Obituary
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 Elnora Community Hall Elnora, Alberta Diana passed away on January 21, 2018 at the Wynyard Hospital as a result of rapid metastasizing lung cancer. Diana was born to Thorvald (aka Harry) & Edith Nielsen in Lacombe, AB., August 27, 1945. Diana was the oldest sibling of three, having a brother, Gordon and a sister, Sandra. Diana grew up in Elnora catching the eye of Marvin Bigelow one Friday evening while walking the streets of Elnora with a friend! Marvin & Diana later married on June 26, 1965. They set their roots in the Crossroads Community, purchasing a small farm homestead adjacent to the Crossroads Hall. On the farm Diana was kept busy baking ice cream pails full of chocolate chip cookies, which seemed to empty faster than she could fill them! Having three sons which generously helped themselves to a frozen cookie or two before bed. She was an avid canner, always having a cold room full of jams, and canned fruits and vegetables for the winter months. We often teased her that there must be a hidden room somewhere in the house full of chocolates. As there always seemed to be some form of 'chocolate treat' in the house. While on the farm Diana furthered her schooling and became a Legal Secretary. She would later work in lawyer's offices in both Red Deer and Three Hills. Diana's passion however was cooking. Diana & Marvin retired from farming, and moved back to mom's home town Elnora. Establishing a new yard site next to her childhood home and mother Edith Nielsen. They then purchased the Elnora restaurant renaming it 'Dee Dee's Kountry Kitchen'. Dee Dee being Diana's childhood nickname. They lived in Elnora until seeking a change in scenery, they sold everything and moved from Elnora to Wynyard, Saskatchewan in 2010. In Wynyard, they have met and became friends with some extraordinary people. Diana was predeceased by her father Harry and mother Edith (Collins) Nielsen. A son Wade, passing during birth and her fist love Marvin (October 23, 2017). Diana will sadly be missed by her brother Gordon and his wife Linda. Her sister Sandra. Her Aunts Dorothy Kostynuik and Gladys Page. Her last surviving sister-in-law Cecilia Myers. Her sons and their wives; Tom & Sandy of Three Hills, Dean & Sarah of St. Brieux, SK, and Kelly & Danielle of Trochu. Her Grandchildren; Allex & Tanner (Tom & Sandy), Mitchell & Liam (Dean & Sarah), and Emily, Brandon & Grace-lynn (Kelly & Danielle). As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
