Obituary
Franz (Frank) Holweck passed away on July 7th 2021 at the age of 87 in his adopted hometown of Wynyard, Saskatchewan. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and an excellent sense of humour. Frank was born January 23rd 1934 in Mingolsheim Germany to Albert and Elisabetha Holweck. In 1953 he boarded the MS Nelly transport ship and arrived in the Port of Quebec in Montreal, Canada. During his time in Montreal he worked odd-jobs, which is an incredible achievement considering he arrived in Canada with no English or French ability and only $1.35 to his name. After three years of living in Montreal, Frank headed West with sights set on Vancouver. During a stop in Regina, Frank met with a friend from Germany who challenged him to find a job within a day of his arrival. The next day Frank found work as a monument maker which is demonstrative of his work ethic and determination. This work would develop his keen mind for business and the trade of monument making. Regina was where Frank met Alice and they were married on July 5th 1958 in Watson. The young couple established themselves in Wynyard and began their family with the birth of four children; Cherilyn, Caroline, Kevin and Michelle (Darren). Throughout his life Frank was devoted to the operation of his monument business, Good-Hall Memorials which he ran for nearly fifty years. Frank was passionate about his hobbies of photography, walking in nature, reading and his joy of cooking. On February 15th 2003, Frank married Ida in a ceremony in Wynyard and so he became step-father to her three sons Michael, Brad (Shelley) and Tony (Sharon). In addition to his children he is mourned by his grandchildren, Ashley (Michael), Devon, Taylor, Brittney, Apryl, Jonathan, Kelsey, Jayden and his two great grandchildren, Scarlett and Jake. In his later life Frank loved his dogs Maggie and Jackson, his cats, bottles of wine, sweets and making people laugh with his quick wit and sharp sense of humour. Frank passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on the morning of July 7th. Family, friends, and others whose lives Frank touched are invited to celebrate his life at a service held Saturday, July 10th, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Wynyard Hospital and Golden Acres Nursing home for their attentiveness and care.
