Obituary
Born October 15, 1920 on his parents’ homestead farm east of Wynyard, John was the third child of Mike and Rose Usipiuk. Attending Rushville school at first, John continued his early education at Springburn School since Mike and Rose had moved to a new farm east of Wynyard in 1933. John farmed with his father and also worked on neighboring farms after leaving school at the age of sixteen. It was at the age of 21, in 1942, that John voluntarily enlisted to participate in the Second Great War. His training consisted in time spent in Regina, Sussex New Brusnwick, and overseas at Aldershot, England, as a member of the Fifteenth Canadian Field Artillery Regiment. John spoke fondly of the skills he developed training on the artillery guns of the day. After over three years of training, John’s Regiment was called to duty to complete the liberation of continental Europe, landing at Courseilles Sur Mer on July 12, 1944. His Regiment pushed on until they had reached Germany when peace was declared. Until his discharge from his duties on Feb. 6, 1946, he spent the time in Belgium, enjoying their great hospitality. As a fresh civilian back in Canada, John worked on the Alaska Highway and on the CPR railway before buying land in 1957 and joining his dad at farming. In 1951, he married Martha Jeziorna, a Polish post war immigrant he had met in Langenburg. Together they had two children: Rosemarie and Daniel. Throughout his farming years, a passion he pursued with precision and pride, he took time to serve his community. The St. Mary Catholic Church, the local UGG association, the Wynyard Senior Drop In Center, and of course the Wynyard Legion received his participation in various capacities, many years in executive positions. John and Martha were very proud to host their visiting grandchildren. John is predeceased by his wife Martha and also his parents, his brothers Nick and Harry, his sisters Ann and Victoria. He leaves to mourn three siblings, Mary and Fred from B.C. and Sophie from Manitoba. Also mourning his loss are his daughter Rosemarie Theoret (Ephrem); granddaughter Franchesca Fellner (Michael), great grandchildren Jonathan and Andrew, granddaughter Cindy Wall (Lance), great grandchildrenMikaela and Carter, granddaughter Dr. Christina Theoret (husband Josh Safronetz), grandson Keith Theoret (Melissa), great grandchildren Isabella, Emmett, and Leland; his son Daniel (Susan), and grandchildren Dylan (Renea), Jillian and Clifton.
