Gladys Anderson (Sundquist) March 6, 1920 - October 15, 2019 Gladys passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15 at the age of 99. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her parents Joseph and Ragnhild; brothers Fred (in childhood) George, Rudolph and Harold; brothers-in-law Ben Zander, Alan Brooks, Henry Anderson, Edward Anderson, Gus Hillbom, Stan Shaw, Art Kirkpatrick, Nels Hillbom, John Belak, Geoff Smith; sisters-in-law Hildur Hillbom, Lil Kirkpatrick, Olga Hillbom, Linea Smith, Astrid Howlett, Hadie Anderson, Annie Anderson, Vesper Sundquist, Doris Sundquist, and Elsie Sundquist. Gladys is lovingly remembered by her children Andrea (Emile) Sebastian, Rod (Judy) Anderson, and Rick (Bev) Anderson, six grandsons, six great grandsons, and 2 great grand daughters, her brother Karl Sundquist, her sister Ruth Zander, her sister Shirley Brooks, sister-in-law Kae Sundquist, brother-in-law Bruce Howlett, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Gladys was born on a farm south of Kandahar on March 6, 1920. As the oldest girl in the family she became her mother’s helper at a young age. There were many chores to be done on a daily basis. She had a special relationship with her mother who taught her how to cook, bake, take care of household chores, garden, sew, crochet, knit and mend. She attended Levant and Kandahar schools as a young girl. Gladys lived her life with a deep felt responsibility to take care of family, always willing to help brothers and sisters who might need support. She was very attentive to her mother’s needs later in life as well. Gladys loved to dance and met her lifelong dance partner at one of the many schoolhouse dances held in the rural community. She married Ralph Anderson October 27, 1943. They lived on the farm until 1959 at which time they moved to Wynyard. They continued to farm while Ralph worked full time in town. Gladys packed many lunches and brought many meals to the farm over the years. She picked stones and roots, hauled grain from the combine and performed many other tasks. She was exceptionally well organized which allowed her to maintain a very efficient household. This even extended to Ralph as he needed a wee bit of organizing occasionally. She was a member of the Bognor Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching her sons curl and enjoyed track and field but was not a big fan of hockey as she felt it was too rough. She and Ralph enjoyed travel and were able see Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, England, France, and Holland as well as spending a few weeks in Arizona one winter. She helped raise her family expecting them to exhibit good manners and to show respect and to succeed in school and work. She influenced many people with her example of how to work hard, to appreciate family and friends, and to live life in a Christian way. She will be missed.
