Obituary
Ted was born on August 20, 1934 in Wadena to Fred and Martha Kerluke. He loved the farm life and that must be why he only attended Caledon School until grade 8. He continued his education on the farm. Ted married Marion Kereluke on May 11, 1955 in Elfros, Saskatchewan. They lived on the family farm for many years working hard together. They were blessed with five children: Arlee (Joan) of Wadena, Grant (Holly) of Wadena, Chris of Rose Valley, Patricia of Saskatoon, and Darla (Dean) of Wadena. Sadly, Marion passed away on June 29, 1990. Shortly thereafter, Ted moved to Wadena. Ted was actively involved with the Wadena Lions Club and volunteered for the “Wild West Days” which used to be held annually in Wadena. Ted also enjoyed curling and curled in many bonspiels in Wadena and surrounding areas. Besides farming, Ted worked at many other jobs. To name a few he worked with Todd Byman, R.J Sales, Neilson Trucking Ltd. and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool where he acquired the nickname “Big Mac”. Over the years Ted and Marion enjoyed travelling to Alberta, British Columbia and the United States. Ted and Marion enjoyed to visit and socialize with friends. Most visits included Ted pulling out the accordion and playing until the wee hours. Marion often accompanied him with her singing. All of the kids remember falling asleep listening to their music. Ted’s entire life revolved around music and everyone benefitted from his musical ability. He could play any instrument placed into his hands. Everyone was always amazed how he could play the accordion, fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, drums and spoons. Ted spent many hours entertaining the residents at Pleasantview Care Home, Weneeda Park Lodge and Spruce Manor. His music will be missed by all residents and his many band members. Ruth and the Gang will not be the same without Ted. Ted entertained at many birthday parties. Sometimes he did not even know the person celebrating the birthday. Ted loved his music, however, his main love was farming. Ted’s favorite time of the year was harvest time. He enjoyed driving the combine and just being in the field. Last fall Ted was so happy when, with help, he was able to get in the combine and drive it for a few rounds, oxygen tank and all. This would be his final round. Ted loved living where he did. He enjoyed coffee almost everyday with Beanie (Evelyn) and Leona and other close neighbors. Ted was also getting Home Care and he enjoyed the many visits with the Home Care girls. They were very good to Ted and he appreciated all of their help. Ted is survived by his children Arlee (Joan), Grant (Holly), Chris, Patricia, and Darla (Dean); grandchildren Kari, Amanda (Scott), Angela (Travis), Joanna (Andrew), Christy (Erik), Corey (Laurena), Dillon and Dallas; great-grandchildren Lukas, Matthew, Violet, Talon, Landon, Shelby, Skylar, Kaleb, Holden, Kaiden and Aiden; sister Irene Stachyruk of Wynyard; sister-in-laws, Sophie Kerluke & Doris Kerluke both of Wynyard;as well as many nieces and nephews. Ted will be missed dearly by his close friends: Beanie (Evelyn), Leona, Mary, and Diana. All the tenants at Spruce Manor, the senior housing, and of course all of the players in the band. Ted was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Marion; parents Fred and Martha; parents-in-law Fred and Mary; sisters Anastasia, Pauline, and Martha; brothers George, Angus, Percy, William, and Bill; great-grandson Jacob; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
