Obituary
Peter Hajewich was born on July 16, 1930 in the West Bend District, to Andrew (Andy) and Annie (Popik) Hajewich. He was born 6th in a family of 10. He attended Gilbert and West Bend Schools up to and including Grade 9. Farming was always in his blood. After leaving school, he went to work for Gordon Cooke, as a farm labourer, in southwest Saskatchewan for three summers, making $120.00 per month. After returning home, he developed pleurisy and spent a total of four months in Foam Lake and Regina Hospitals recuperating after surgery. Upon recovering, he started farming with his brother Mike in 1960. They retired and moved to Yorkton in 2005. As a young boy, he played softball as a pitcher and third baseman. He was especially good at batting an could be counted on for hitting many home runs. He also liked to play hardball. As a young man, he started curling. His main position was 3rd, winning many trophies and prizes throughout the years. Later in life, fishing became his sport of choice. He caught a 26 lbs. Northern Pike (Jack Fish) in Fishing Lake. He was very proud of it and had it mounted to hang on the wall. The fish was a prized possession. Peter was an unselfish man. Peter and his brother Mike looked after their parents while they watched their siblings marry and move away. Peter and Mike continued to farm, and take great care of the house, yard and farm. Peter had strong faith, living life in a Christian way, attending and working to support and maintain the church. Peter’s religious beliefs were instilled from the day he was born and his daily prayers continued even in his last days. He was always involved in the parishes where he resided. As a member of Model Farm Parish, he served on parish council for many years and was the first to volunteer for any projects that needed to be done. Peter is lovingly remembered by: his brother Mike, sister Elsie (Bill) Hood, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, as well as many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents: Andrew (Andy) and Annie; his sisters: Rose, Olga, Kay, and Stefania (in infancy); his brothers: Nick, Andrew, and John.
