Obituary
Memorial Service 11:00 a.m Thursday, January 11, 2018 Wynyard Lutheran Church Wynyard, Saskatchewan Lillian Zelma Mochulsky (Skjerven) was born the youngest of 8 children on August 27, 1929 in Wynyard. Lillian attended school in Kandahar eventually relocating to Wynyard. On October 28th, 1955 Lillian married the love of her life Paul Mochulsky at the Aarnes Lutheran Church in Kandahar. From that union came two boys Richard Kenneth and James Harry both born in Wynyard. In 1964 Lillian and Paul relocated to Edmonton. As her sons grew and married she became the proud grandmother of three grandsons and one granddaughter. Lillian was diligent in making every effort to see her grandchildren as often as possible, never missing an important birthday or milestone that had her traveling extensively to be at high school and college graduations. Lillian’s pride never showed through more than when she talked about her two sons Dick and Jim, they were the center of her and Paul’s universe. As she did with her grandchildren she made extraordinary efforts to see her boys, even as they moved around the country and Dick eventually moving to the USA. Lillian always split Christmas between Calgary and Dallas spending time with Dick and Jim and their families. Phone calls with the boys always had to include grand kids, job and travel updates. Lillian’s dedication to her husband was unselfish and unrelenting. Paul could always count on a great meal upon returning from work, he knew she would be there when it was time to look after his ailing mother, someone to take long Sunday drives with, someone to grab him a rum and coke and in his final days a permanent fixture at his bedside ensuring his comfort. Lillian loved to laugh and being married to Paul gave her ample opportunity, their evening “happy hour” ritual was one filled with smiles and giggles. Lillian was a very active volunteer in Edmonton. Her determination to get a skating rink for the kids in their community led to eventually being recognized by the City of Edmonton for that and all her subsequent volunteering efforts. Lillian and Paul relocated back to Wynyard in 1992 (their home). Lillian immediately immersed herself in the volunteer opportunities Wynyard presented. Her time was spent at the hospital, Golden Acres, playing three spot at the Drop In Center among other activities. In 2012 Lillian was recognized by the Province of Saskatchewan for her efforts at an elaborate ceremony in Saskatoon. She was a very familiar face around Wynyard the town she loved. Lillian passed away suddenly and peacefully on January 5th, 2018 in Calgary after spending 16 wonderful days with family in Calgary. All of the grandchildren had the opportunity to spend quality time with her during those days. Lillian was predeceased by her first born son David Paul, mother and father, Olea and Herman, her husband Paul and her sisters and one brother, Edith, Annie, Margaret, Pearl, Violet, Thelma and her twin brother Ken. She is survived by her sons Dick and Jim. Dick and his wife Irene reside in Dallas, TX and their two sons Rick and Chris live in Los Angeles, CA and Boulder, CO respectively. Jim and his wife Monique live in Calgary along with Jim’s two children Shaylynne and Tylor. Lillian was the loved “favorite” aunt to all her nieces and nephews and will be missed by her many, many wonderful friends in Wynyard not the least of which were her volunteer partners Doreen Skjerven (sister in law) and Emily Madey.
