Memorial Service Monday, August 10, 2015 1:00 p.m. Wynyard Ukrainian Hall Wynyard, Saskatchewan Donation's in memory of Darren may be made to Wynyard Hospital Auxiliary, or the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. William Darren Rath was born on July 4, 1960 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. He attended elementary school in Jansen, Saskatchewan, and high school in Lanigan. While attending high school and during the summer he worked at "The Junction" pumping gas and performing general automotive duties. Upon completing high school, he joined his father with the farming enterprise. During this time he met the love of his life, Bernice Schueller from Leroy, and on April 17, 1982 he and Bernice were married in Leroy. They were blessed with 2 children, Griffin born July 2, 1985 and Brittney, born March 31, 1988. Darren had several careers during his lifetime: He and Bernice took over the family farm, he also owned and operated his trucking business and in later years a backhoe operation at Fishing Lake. Darren led a quiet and simple life. He was generous and kind and was always ready to assist his friends and neighbours with their plans and projects. Jackie Ferraton relates that Darren taught her how to operate a combine which served her well in subsequent harvests. Darren, however, had strongly held opinions and would voice them if he felt it necessary to do so. Darren was a real asset to his community and to all who knew him. Darren always enjoyed a social drink with friends in Jansen and Wynyard and in the last few years at the Wynyard Cement Plant. He enjoyed their lake property, particularly fishing and visiting with his friends and family. He lived at the lake from May long weekend until well into October. Darren had a bucket list and managed to fulfill many of the items on the list, particularly a trip to Cancun, Mexico, where he was able to put his feet in the Atlantic Ocean. He attended his niece's wedding in Calgary and spent a weekend with Griffin, Robyn and sons at the West Edmonton Mall. Darren always wanted a convertible and to this end he and Bernice purchased one. Weather permitting, and with the top down, Darren would drive about and deliver A & W milkshakes to his friends at the Cement Plant. Brittney and her fiancé, Andrew, reside in Regina. Their son, Sawyer, saw his grandfather often in the last few months. Sawyer never failed to bring a smile to Darren's face. He truly loved and enjoyed his grandsons. He unfortunately was unable to meet his newborn granddaughter, Kynzlie Rath, born on July 31, 2015. Darren was predeceased by his father, William Rath, his grandparents, Theodore and Augusta Rath, Orton and Hazel Hunter, his aunt, Sharon Pisack, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Lorraine Schueller. He leaves to mourn, his dear wife, Bernice, his children, Griffin (Robyn), Caden, Nolen, Payton, Kynzlie; Brittney (Andrew), Sawyer, his mother, Shirley, and his sisters, Kim Blyth (Colin), Holly Sveinbjornson (Lavern) and his brother Craig (Audrey), sisters-in-law, Patricia Gross (John), Lorna Harms (Doug) and many nieces and nephews. We the family are sure that Darren would like to thank everyone who brought him laughter and joy. The family would like to thank the doctors, nursing and hospital staff and all who cared for and assisted Darren. Also to everyone for the many phone calls, cards, flowers and food that was brought to the house.
