Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Byblow of Wynyard, SK on December 20th, 2020. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and kind and gentle friend. We are so thankful for all of the great memories we have of him. Peter is survived by his loving wife Gladys, their two sons Andrew and Nestor (Irma), daughter Christina Hoffman Essig, five grandsons; Kevin (Eva) Hoffman, Adam (Denise) Byblow, Ryan Hoffman, Hudson Byblow, Brennan (Amanda) Hoffman, and four great-grandchildren: Daxton Byblow, Emmeri Byblow, Tyce Byblow and Amber Hoffman. Peter is also survived by brother Zenon; sisters Olga (Achtemichuk), Sonya (Pawliw) and Jeanne (Spilak); sisters-in-law, Eileen (Byblow), Pauline Dorush, Marge Rodych and brother-in-law Ed Spilak, as well as many nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Peter was born on May 2nd, 1921 in the Whitesand District, north east of Springside, SK to John and Katherine Byblow of Whitesand District. He was the third oldest of eleven children. He attended Whitesand School. He worked for farmers in the area for a while and in 1942, went to Regina to enlist in the Air Force. He was allowed 30 days to help with harvest at the farm and then returned to Regina to do six weeks of basic training and then was posted in Ucluelet on Vancouver Island for several months at a machine gun lookout post. After competing Aero Engine Mechanic training, Peter had postings in Yarmouth N.S., Stanley, N.S., New Brunswick and Bournemouth, England where he worked on fighter planes. Peter volunteered for duty in Japan but prior to leaving, he was sent home on a short leave and fortunately, the war ended during this time. In 1945, he returned to Springside. After he met and married Gladys Rodych on August 29th, 1948, they made their first home on a farm nine miles south of Tuffnell, where they resided for nine years. During this time, son Andy was born in 1950 and son Nestor was born in 1951. In 1957, they decided to move to Tuffnell to be closer to school and town. In 1957, daughter Christina was born and completed our family of three children. While living in Tuffnell, they also farmed land south of Tuffnell which meant a great many trips to the farm. Peter’s knowledge of mechanics was very useful in farming as well as his knowledge of carpentry. While farming, he did a lot of carpentry projects in and around the Tuffnell area as well as in Yorkton and was well known for the quality of his work. Peter worked very hard around the farm and made sure that all of our needs were met. After retiring from farming, Peter and Gladys lived in several places including Canora, Wynyard, Lanigan and back to Wynyard. While living in these communities, Peter continued with many carpentry projects and also was able to spend more time with Legion activities. Maple Grove retirement home in Wynyard was the perfect place for them as they knew so many people there. He loved the small town atmosphere and especially the freedom to drive wherever and whenever he wanted to. After a hospital stay in December of 2017, Peter and Gladys moved to Golden Acres Nursing Home in Wynyard. Peter was predeceased by his brothers; Steve (Anne) Byblow, Paul (Helen) Byblow, Andy (Sylvia) Byblow, Vince (Fran) Byblow; sisters Adele (Dalton) Collins, Minnie (Ed) Switzer; brothers-in-law Dalton Collins (Adele), Tony Achtemichuk (Olga), Fred Pawliw (Sonya), and sisters-in-law Anne Byblow (Steve), Helen Byblow (Paul) and Francis Byblow (Vince Byblow). May he rest in peace. A Virtual Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021 Funeral Service will be live streamed on Narfason's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium's Facebook Page
