Obituary
Gwen Arnason’s Obituary With heavy hearts we bid farewell to our beloved Mom, Amma, Gwen Arnason. Mom was born to Beth & Barney Johnson on October 13th, 1924 on a farm between Kandahar & Wynyard. She was the oldest of 5 siblings. Mom took her schooling at Mountain & Mozart schools. After graduating she worked at Simpson Sears in Regina. She came back to the area to marry her husband of 73 years Thor. With no electricity or running water everything then was labour intensive. Her house was spotless and she scrubbed those floors until the pattern was worn off the congoleum. She & Dad were gracious hosts and our home was often filled with family and friends. They were always ready to help us with any tasks whether it was babysitting grandchildren, knocking walls out, painting, moving, building or sandbagging. Mom was very community minded and served on the Mozart Ladies Aid, Mozart Credit Union and Sask. Mineral Boards, plus working hard for the CCF/NDP for many years. She also took many community Collage courses from accounting to hair cutting. They loved to dance - square dance, round dance & clogging which took them all corners of Saskatchewan. They were also avid curlers, cross country and down hill skiers, golfing, playing bridge and spending time at Fishing lake. Mom and Dad toured much of Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, Greece and Iceland usually with some family with them. Mom worked for the area vet before she started working at Golden Acres as a cook. They moved to Wynyard in 1997. Mom was involved in the United Church, Community Health Clinic, Food Bank, Senior Centre, Vatnabyggd Club, & FIM holding positions on many boards. In her 80’s she took the instructors classes to teach forever in motion and instructed classes at Westview and faithfully attended exercises at the Civic Centre. Mom was a wonderful cook and her famous brown bread was loved by family and friends alike. After dad died she sold her house and enjoyed the comfort and friendship in Quillside Place until the end of June when she broke her hip. Mom liked nothing more than having a visit from her family and friends and coffee, goodies or a great meals were always on. Mom was a quiet but determined gentle soul. She is loved and missed by her children, Sharon (Roger) Nupdal, Thora, Terry, Stefan (Carolina), Murray ( Sandy) Arnason, Sisters Fyola Lorenzen, Wilma Clark, and sister in-law Kay Johnson. Grandchildren Todd (Margaret) Nupdal, Tara ( Randy) Bender, Thora ( Kerry) Joynt, Tryggvi (Mehan) Nupdal, Michael (Amanda) Arnason, Jennifer (Mike), Eric (Cherilyn) Arnason, Jason (Lisa) Dubiel, Kayla (Ryan) Melsted, and Beth Arnason + 20 Great Grandchildren.
