Obituary
Mary passed away last week at Golden Acres at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Janet in 1946; her husband John in 1975; parents, Bill and Helen Usipiuk; sisters, Annie and Katie; sister-in-law, Bernice. Mary is lovingly remembered by her children; Shirley (Jim) Scott, Ruth Williams (Doug Dryden), Dale (Roxy) Kucey, Danny (Pat) Kucey, Barry (Valerie) Kucey; grandchildren, Sonya Scott (Christoper Bradd), Colleen (Kurtis) Valuck, Christoper Kucey (Melissa), Jason Kucey, Janessa Kucey (James Olson), Joel Kucey (Veronika Xiao) and Dusty Kucey; great-grandchildren, Alexis Valuck and Callie Kucey. She is also survived by; sister, Lena Latoski; brothers, John (Magnell), Joe (Elizabeth), Mack (Dorothy) and Steve. Mary was born on the farm in the Krasne district in 1922, one of eight children in the family. She attended Halicz School. She married John on November 11, 1942, living with John’s mother Nettie in Rushville district until the spring of 1944 when John and Mary bought a quarter section in East Lynne district, south of Wynyard. Life was not easy but long days and hard work helping John with the farm, planting the garden, and looking after the animals helped support the growing family. Sundays were special days with picnics, trips to Watrous or one of the lakes, and visits with friends, family and wonderful meals; no one ever left the Kucey house hungry. In 1970 a fire destroyed their barn and most of the cattle perished. To help support the family Mary started working at Crawford Foods, now Lilydale, in town, retiring at 65 in 1987. By 1983, Mary has moved into her new house in Wynyard, filling her years with gardening, grandchildren, garage saling, quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, and helping with the women’s auxiliary. Shortly after her 94th birthday, and just after having harvested her last garden, Mary moved in Golden Acres. The staff at Golden Acres were wonderful in caring for Mary in the time she spent there. Mary will be remembered for her generosity by all who knew her. Mary, we all miss you.
