In 1948, she moved to Winnipeg, Man. where she attended summer school, taught for 1 year, then returned to Tuxedo Normal School (Teacher’s College) where she graduated in 1952. Her first teaching job was teaching grades 1 and 2 in a 3 room school in Dominion City, Man. In 1955, she started teaching school at the Edgebrook Country School where she met Mike Korsak. Her last teaching job was at Copeland School, Grades 1-8 in 1964-65 where she also started the first Kindergarten program in the community. Rose was the ultimate farm wife, raising five children, cooking for family and work crews, planting big gardens, tending to her yard, milking cows and raising thousands of chickens. As a result, Rose was fondly called “Chicken Grandma”. She was famous for her borscht, breads, buns, poppy seed rolls, perogies and cabbage rolls and was one of the original vendors when the Wynyard Farmer’s Market began in the mid 1970’s. Her garden fed many and no one ever left the farm without a meal or at least coffee and a cinnamon bun. As a result, she had many customers for her baking and cooking until spring 2015. Rose had a huge interest in current events, politics and Biblical teachings. She also loved to knit and crochet. She was timid about travelling too far, but loved her trips to Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta to visit family. She also enjoyed trips to New Jersey, North Carolina and visited the beaches.
