Obituary
Dan passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on December 6, 2016. Dan was born on May 9, 1927 on the family farm in the Ponass Lake area. He was the fifth son of the late Fred and Annie (Plaksy) Zazula. He attended Zazula School and later he was helping on the family farm. In the fall of 1944, Dan took a train from Clair to Winnipeg to start Musker Engineering School, where he received his mechanical and welding certificate. He then worked at Desganes Motors in Winnipeg until 1946. He then moved to Quill Lake and worked at Gardiners John Deere dealership and also the G.M. dealership. In 1949, Dan went to Edmonton for a Diesel course. In the spring of 1951 he came back to Wadena and worked for the Woloshyn brothers, and John Johns. On August 29, 1954, he married the love of his life, Ann Michaluk. They were blessed with four daughters; Diane, Donna, Debra, and Donalda. In 1957, Dan and his brother-in-law, Paul Stephanyshen purchased White Rose Corner Service. Dan’s nephew, Bradley worked together with them. When Dan’s health started to fail at the age of 87, he realized he had to start taking it easy. Bradley is still operating the family business. Dan loved life, and lived it to the fullest. He was proud of his faith, and his nationality. He was a very faithful member of the Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church. He served on the parish council for many years. He loved going Christmas caroling and singing in the church choir. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the K40 Kinsmen Club, and also belonged to the Veselka choir. Dan had a strong work ethic, enjoyed gardening, cooking, keeping his grass manicured and later in life he learned to operate a computer. After his wife Ann had passed on in December of 2003, Dan insisted to celebrate our Christmas and Easter tradition at his house. He always looked forward to have a few good kaizer card games with his three sons-in-law. Dan’s door was always opened for family and friends; he was always a great host. One of his favorite sports was snowmobiling. He enjoyed many races and won many trophies. Dan and Ann would take frequent snowmobile trips with their friends. Dan loved to go to his cabin at Fishing Lake. He enjoyed relaxing and being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dan was a kind compassionate and deeply religious man who was loved and respected by his family and friends. We are truly blessed to have shared the many years we had with him and will miss him dearly. Dan was predeceased by, his loving wife Ann, December 7, 2003; his parents, Fred and Annie; brothers, John, Andrew, Alex, and Steve; numerous brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children; Diane (Guy) Williams; granddaughters; Katlyn and Janessa; daughter, Donna (Ron) Korolchuk; granddaughter; Cianna (Jeff); great-grandsons, Graysen, Grady, and Rhett Berlinic; grandson, Daylon (Courtney); great-grandson, Bryden Korolchuk; grandson, D’Neil (Ashley); great-grandson, D’Nali Korolchuk; daughter, Debra (Lois); daughter, Donalda (Kelly) Buchinski; grandsons, Mikel, Alexander and Daniel; granddaughters, Anna-Marie, and Mary-Anna; brother, Nick (Alice) Zazula of Winnipeg, Manitoba; brother, Mike (Margaret) Zazula of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister, Nellie Wence of Abbotsford, B.C.; sister, Elsie Kozak of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister, Mary (Sam) Sewell of Winnipeg, Manitoba; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Mechanic I've twisted many a wrench, welcomed many a morning sun. I've eaten the grease, n' tasted the oil, and I've gotten many a good job done. I've come home with grease on my face, and pain in my weary bones, but somehow, I always master a grin, when I see the lights of home. As I drive the tow truck to "Corner Service" I started rebuilding alternators, while listening to the rumblin of the train. I thank the good Lord, I can say in my heart that I'd do it all over again.
