Memorial Service 1:00 p.m Saturday, January 20, 2018 Kelvington Legion Community Centre Kelvington, Saskatchewan Bert Eric John Nelson was born to Werner and Apolonia Nelson on July 29, 1953, in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. He was the second child of five children. Bert grew up in the Wadena area, where he attended school. Ever since he was two years old and able to walk he was near his dad’s side, helping with the farm, building cars, go-carts, motorcycles and various items. He loved to build and fix things. The family made many trips to the lake for camping and fishing. A common phrase that could be heard as the lake came into site was, “I see the lake first!”, which we adopted as our family tradition. In the early 70’s, Bert started working for Haas Brothers Construction in the road building business which later turned into Haas Construction Ltd. gravel crushing. He worked for his uncle, Peter Haas until 1996 when he started up his own gravel crushing business, Bert’s Construction Ltd. Bert learned at a very early age how to be a great machinist, as he designed and built his primer crusher to get his business underway. On November 22, 1975, he married Cecylia Stapor in Wadena. During their 28 year marriage, they were blessed with four children: Jennifer, Sheila, Dwight and Sandra. Bert’s hobbies included, hunting, fishing, curling, playing cards, going to the casino and visiting his grandchildren. Each fall he looked forward to hunting season with his dad, brothers and son. Ice fishing was also a favorite. In his spare time he could be found at his shop tinkering or building. He could tell you how anything was put together or how it worked. Bert was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Duaine Peterson. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Jennifer (Wayne) Nygaard, Sheila (Travis) Hartman, Dwight (Katherine) Nelson and Sandra Nelson; grandchildren, Ashlyn & Griffin Nygaard and Raine Hartman; Jayleene, Peyton and Xavier Nelson; sisters, Bernice Peterson, and Lubie From; brothers, Gerald (Jennifer) Nelson, and Brian (Denise) Nelson; his former wife Cecylia Nelson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other family and friends who shared in his life.
