Obituary
It is with fondness and great memories that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved father. Dad was born on the family farm near Rushville. He was one of 12 children born to Mike and Annie [Kohuch] Popadynec. He married his sweetheart Mary [Petryshyn] and his life was blessed with 11 children. Dad and Mom farmed for nearly 50 years prior to moving into the town of Wynyard. He adapted to town life with ease. Dad was now able to attend more events and was a great fan of his grandchildren’s many activities. He also relished his leisure time spending countless hours in the glorious sunshine with chairs positioned accordingly depending on the time of the day and the season. The farm life was the good life for dad. It was a productive life with plenty of chores, milking cows, tending livestock, toiling the land producing good crops and pride in raising the fine breed of Maine Anjou cattle. He exemplified the prairie spirit as a good neighbour, a loyal friend and family member with socializing a high priority. The coffee pot was always on with Sundays a day for church and company. Prairie hospitality was part of his DNA. There was not much time for hobbies, but the joy of finding and picking wild mushrooms provided a great diversion. Dad was positive, charismatic, charming, witty & fun, a ray of sunshine wherever he went. His outgoing personality was a gift and he was genuinely interested in everyone he met. A great conversationalist, he was curious and could engage readily and with passion on many diverse subjects. Above all, Dad loved his family and a close second was a spirited game of 3-spot. A highlight of his life was his visit to England to visit his brother. Dad moved to Golden Acres in 2013. His gentle accommodating nature was appreciated by all. Dad was predeceased by his wife Mary, son Mervin, son-in-law Kevin Cooper, grandson Michael Hall, siblings Andy, Mike, Sophie, Joseph, Alex, Olga, Minnie. He leaves to celebrate and rejoice in a life well lived: His sisters Jean, Mary, Rosie, sister-in-law Bernice, children Anne Hall, Marilyn [Emil] Kohuch, Janice, Eugene [Heather], Darlene Cooper, Carol [Dale] Pederson, David [Karen], Gerard [Paulette], Joan [Arthur], Sheldon [Julie], 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many more friends and family that all loved Barney. We wish to thank the staff at Golden Acres for their professional and excellent care looking after our dad. Memorial donations can be made to St. Michael’s Parish, Wishart North and the Golden Acres Auxiliary
