Obituary
Irmgard Lowenberger (nee Greulich) was born April 4, 1927, in Sandweier West Germany, which was close to Baden-Baden, by the Black Forest. When she was four years old, her parents decided to move to Canada, and left Irmgard to be raised by her grandparents, Daniel and Rosina Greulich. The war years were difficult times which left many bad memories. When Irmgard was twenty-three years old, she decided to go to Canada to meet her parents. She came by ship to Halifax, then travelled by train to McKague, Saskatchewan, where her parents farmed. After arriving there, she worked as a nanny to two young boys. It was from her time with them that she learned basic English. Later, she worked in the kitchen at the Tisdale Hospital. It was at Tisdale that she met her future husband, Rudy. Irmgard and Rudy were married August 6, 1952 and started a farm south of Kandahar. They worked side by side, clearing land, picking stones and roots, raising crops, caring for their animals, and growing a huge garden. It was a lifestyle of hard work, but one that she enjoyed. Together, she and Rudy raised three children – Lorraine, born in 1953, Hildegarde in 1956 and Hartmut in 1959. Irmgard continued to live on the farm for about seven years after Rudy’s passing in 1996. She gradually came to decide that the time was right to move to town. She settled into an apartment at Terry Manor, where she lived until 2017, when she moved to Quillside Place. She loved her apartment, and all the new friends that she made there. If she was feeling up to it, she always attended all the social functions. After three years of declining health, Irmgard passed away in Wynyard, September 9, 2020. She will always be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was everything to her. Irmgard was predeceased by her grandparents, Daniel and Rosina Greulich, her parents, Joseph and Emma Greulich, her husband, Rudy, her daughters, Hildegarde Anderson and Lorraine Moulton, son-in-law, Dave Moulton, and her grandson, Scott Anderson.
