Obituary
Lucille Marjorie Mumford was born in 1919, the daughter of James and Gertrude Mumford. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up on the farm, named Ridgeway Acres, in the Ladstock District and attended Ladstock School. In 1934 her Mother died of TB. Marj, being the youngest member of the family, quit school after grade 8 and became the homemaker for her Dad and brother George. During this time Marj participated in a small, local dance troupe that performed at local events. In 1939 she married Bernie White. They farmed the White farm in the Athlone District until 1942 when they moved to the Mumford farm in the Ladstock District. In 1945 they moved to Foam Lake. Marj and Bernie had five children. Marj was kept busy raising a young family. In 1964 she began working at the Post Office, retiring in 1980. Marj was very involved in the community including Museum Board, Secretary of the Senior Centre for 20 years, volunteer for Home Care Visitation, volunteered for the Figure Skating Club and active memeber of United Church Women. Some of Mom’s activities included playing in a bridge club for 53 years, curling, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Mom always liked to have cookies and goodies on hand for company. Mom enjoyed fishing in Northern Saskatchewan with family, including one fly in fishing trip. Over the years she enjoyed trips to California, bus tour to Branson, bus tour to Alaska, in 2002 she went to England where she visited two cousins that she kept in contact with, and in 2003 she went to the Maritimes. In the early 90’s she had the opportunity to see a Blue Jays game live in Toronto. She like to watch the Blue Jays, Rider games and other sports on TV. In 2006 she visited a grandson in Bermuda, where at age 87 she rode a scooter. Mom ‘Granny’ is survived by her children Jean, Larry, Elaine (Ernie), Bernie (Sharon), Ron (Denise), 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by husband Bernie, parents James and Gertrude Mumford, siblings Edith, Nancy, Dolly, George, Winnie, Jimmy (infancy), in-laws William and Isabella White, son-in-law Mike Figursky and daughter-in-law Donna White. Mom dedicated her life to the service of her family and community. A life well lived.
