Obituary
Ray Dale Larson was born on March 4, 1936 on a farm south of Nut Mountain, SK. To Jay and Mary Larson (Althouse). Ray had an older sister, Zelda (Carl Schmidt) and a brother Leo (Joan Carstairs) and younger siblings, Marie (Wilfred Metz) and Roger (Patsy Elander). Ray attended school at Glen Garriff County School. He quit at the age of 15 to go thrashing with his uncle Wally. With the wages earned Ray was able to buy his first horse, Dolly. In 1956, Ray came to Wadena to work for Ken Brewster who owned the Dray in town. In 1957, Ray married Dorothy Louise Anderson. They worked and lived at Clifford and Elaine Jones for 9 years before taking over the family farm west of Rosebud Hall in 1966. It was then three children came into the picture; Peter Roy (March 1966) Robert (Bobby) Dale (May 1968) and Betty Louise (January 1973). Ray actively farmed until 1986. After renting the land out for 3 years the farm was sold and they moved to Wadena in April of 1989. Over the years of living in town, Ray still farmed, working for Curtis Brewster and then later for James Andry before retiring in 2008. Ray’s health remained stable after having a heart attack in May 1999; up until the spring of 2018 when complications from congestive heart failure caught up to him. This then involved moving into Weneeda Park Lodge in May 2018 before entering the hospital in August of 2018 where he was classified as a long term resident in September of 2018, but remained on the hospital side. Ray passed away peacefully on September 23, 2018 at Wadena Union Hospital with his family by his side. Ray was predeceased by his parents Jay and Mary Larson; sisters, Zelda (Carl), Marie; brothers, Leo & Roger (Patsy). Ray is survived by a chosen family; sister, Margaret Mclennan (Victoria, B.C.); son, Peter; son, Bobby (Crystal) and granddaughter Hayden; daughter, Betty (Donald) granddaughters, Taylor, Michelle, Kiana and Emma; numerous nieces, nephews, inlaws, and friends.
