Susan Zagrodney was born on November 2, 1922 on the family farm Section 25-37-13 W2nd in the R.M. of Ponass Lake, to parents Julia and Alec Plaksy. Her family siblings were Mary Pawluk, Annie Nycolat, Amelia Terlesky and John Plaksy. Susan was the last of the surviving of her family. She attended Sigstad School and was the school janitor, and she worked on the family farm. Susan worked as a clerk in the store in Rose Valley until after the war, when she met her future husband. On July 15, 1947 she married Joseph Zagrodney at St. Michaels Greek Catholic Church in the Ponass Lake District. They lived on the Ryland farm east of Fosston, then moved to the Minge farm. During this time their two sons Dwight and Eugene were born. They decided to venture to Prince Albert where Joe sold real estate for a brief period of time. They then purchased the hotel in White Fox, SK where Susan was the cook and chambermaid. After a few years they moved back to the Minge farm. Soon after, their daughter Trudy was born. On their grain farm they raised Purebred Polled Hereford cattle, turkeys on the range and were one of the first to build a poultry facility, to grow poultry indoors. Susan gathered many eggs both chicken and turkey. She was active in her church, curling, and the Fosston Community Club. She became a member of the Eight-ender club along with her teammates: Susie Johnson, Doris Meleschuk, and Leverne Anderson. In 1984, they moved to Wadena to their new home, here they enjoyed retirement. There was never a weed in her garden nor a snowflake on her sidewalk. With Joes passing in 2009, and her failing health Susan moved to Rose Valley Manor, and then to Sasko Park Lodge, Tisdale, SK. She passed away there after a short illness on January 10, 2014. She is predeceased by her husband Joe; sons: Dwight and Eugene; and her parents Julia and Alec Plaksy. She is survived by her daughter, Trudy (Dean) Sutton and children Kris, Delwyn, and Todd; daughters-in-law: Frances and her children Charlotte (Curtis), David (Christine), Carrie, and Dale, and Diane and her children Ivy (David), and Joni (Kevin); and many great grandchildren.
