Obituary
Joseph was born in Wynyard on June 11, 1924, to Ukrainian immigrant parents, Michael and Katherine. He was the youngest in a blended family. He grew up on the farm and attended a one-room rural school in the Wishart area. After completing his education, he met his future wife, Doris. They travelled to Toronto where they were married on July 15, 1945. They returned to the Wynyard area in 1946 where they farmed for six years. In 1949 their only child, Colleen, was born. They moved into town in 1952 and lived there for the rest of their lives. Joe was employed as an accountant for the poultry plant in Wynyard. He worked for the company until his retirement in 1990. Joe was active in the Lions Club for many years and enjoyed golfing and working on his stamp and coin collections. Joe was a homebody until he and Doris took their first cruise. There was no stopping them after that, visiting many places and making lifelong friends. Joe never complained; he always had a smile on his face and did his best to make everyone around him comfortable. He was a sweet and gentle man who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. In return he was well-liked and respected by everyone. He will be remembered for his humility, generosity, and devotion to his girls. Joe was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 69 years, Doris, in 2015, numerous siblings and other relatives. Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter Colleen (Allan) Olson; his granddaughter Shannon (Brad) Dumouchelle; and his great-granddaughter, Linden Dumouchelle; as well as sisters-in-law, Marion Courte, Irene Yaskowich and many special nieces and nephews. Donations in memory of Joseph may be made to the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wynyard, SK.
