Obituary
Loretta Eleanor (Mortenson) Morin was born on the family farm in the Spalding district on June 27 1931, the daughter of Albin & Ida Mortenson. Loretta was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Spalding. She took her schooling in the Lake Edward School which was located 1 mile from her home. It was at school that she learned her love of sports days where she won many races and jumping events. She also learned to out run her Dad when he was mad. Loretta started work at an early age, while still going to school she cleaned for her Uncle Fred and continued to do housework for others until 1949 when she got a job in Saskatoon working at the Benson's Drugstore. Mom met the love of her life at a dance in Spalding and as they say, ``the rest is history``. George & Loretta were married on September 21, 1949 in St. Paul`s Lutheran Church in Melfort & settled into married life on the family farm. From this union 5 children were born, 3 daughters & 2 sons. Life was hard on the farm in those early years but family & friends were a great source of companionship. They sold the farm in 1966, built a house in Naicam and stayed there until they moved to Victoria House in 1998. In Naicam Loretta belonged to the Lutheran Ladies Aid, the Co-op Gill and a Neighbor`s Birthday Club for many years. In March 2015 they moved to Luther Towers and because of her health Loretta became a resident of the Luther Long Term Care Home in September 2017 where she passed away on April 2, 2018. Mom & Dad loved to travel & have gone on many trips, some family trips to B.C. & the States. Other holidays with friends included 2 Expo trips, bus trips to Florida & the Maritimes, a trip to Hawaii and several winters down in Arizona. It was down in Arizona where Mom learned to do many crafts such as Bunka, Zipper Art, & Paper Toll, to name a few. Every November the potatoes, lefse rolling pin & grill would come out to make the many lefse for the family Christmas season. She loved to make all the Norwegian dandies, rosettes, Krumkake and Sandbakkelse as well and has passed down the recipe & knowledge in making them to her children.
