Obituary
Naomi Ruth Goodman was born to Fred and Marjorie Goodman January 19, 1938, in Weekes Saskatchewan. According to her brother Clayton, Grandpa Goodman was not able to enlist because he had too many children. A lot of people were needed to work in the mines in Flin Flon during World War II to make metal products for the war so this is where he was able to find work and Grandpa moved the whole family to Flin Flon. After that, their family returned to the farm in Weekes, where Naomi attended and completed high school. It was always Naomi and Wilfred’s responsibility to look after Clayton and Eva, being the younger of the Goodman children. Naomi talked very fondly of her life in Weekes with her family and friends growing up. She was very fond of her parents and especially of her big and little brothers, who could do no wrong. Clifford and Naomi met while he was working in the Weekes area through a common interest of curling. Clayton said in the spring, when the snow melted, the Shand Creek and Edomi River would flood the bridge. Toby had to cross that bridge come to Naomi’s home. He would always make it, and they used to joke that he would go through hell or high water to get to her. They were married November 12th, 1956 in Porcupine, Saskatchewan, with a reception and dance in the Weekes hall. Clifford and Naomi lived and worked on the family farm near Nut Mountain for many years. Naomi worked hard on the farm. She spent many hours in the garden and helped to haul grain during harvest. Clifford and Naomi did a lot of camping and fishing. They were inseparable and did everything together including many amazing fishing and bus trips. They travelled for a few years to places like Hawaii, Europe, Nashville, Churchill, and Mexico to attend Katee and Ryan’s wedding with most of thefamily. They very much enjoyed their time with family and friends. Many enjoyable nights were spent playing cards with Clarence and Gladys, as well as many others. One of their favorite things in their lives was to attend the Tenant Music Festival. They attended this event for over 20 years and Toby was so proud of the fact that Ray and Myrna Tenant saved a special spot for them to park right beside the main stage. Clifford and Naomi had four children; Sharon, Sheila, Glenn and Mervin who have blessed them with nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Naiomi and Clifford and their family suffered much heartache when their daughter Sheila tragically passed away in a car accident at the age of 20. Naomi was predeceased by: her parents, Fred and Marjorie; her brothers, Allan, Ken, and Wilfred; her sister Ina; and numerous members of Clifford’s family, brothers in-law, sisters in-law, as well as several extended family. Naomi leaves to mourn her passing: her daughter Sharon (Allan) Nelson of Rose Valley, SK, her son Glenn (Rita) Cawkwell of Spiritwood, SK, and her son Mervin Cawkwell of Kelvington, SK; her grandchildren, Bradley (Leanne) Nelson, Katee (Ryan) Galandy, Jeremy (Meghan) Nelson, Ashley Cawkwell, Tyler Cawkwell, Justin Cawkwell, Katelyn (Patrick) Dadds, Jordyn Russell and Megan Cawkwell; her great grandchildren, Joy and Molly Nelson, Rylan and Cooper Galandy, Brielle and Jayden Dadds and Cameron Russell; her brothers, Clayton and Garvin Goodman, her dear nephew Gary; her sister, Eva Leonard and her sisters in-laws; Myrt Donaldson, Gladys Cawkwell. Many years ago, Allan, Sharon, Clifford and Naomi decided to go to Katee and Jeremy’s for Easter to meet her new boyfriend Ryan. They were all sitting around a table playing a board game that involved Sharon taking Naomi’s arms and legs and moving her around like a puppet. Although we can’t remember what Sharon was trying to accomplish, she accidently kicked Naomi’s feet out from under her, crashing her poor Mom to the floor. Naomi was fine and we all laughed like crazy, but Ryan could not believe that we were all laughing at Grandma laying on the floor. We still laugh that it was his first introduction to our crazy family. To top it off, Tobe and Naomi’s puppy, Misty, then escaped onto the front lawn. Not being a city dog, we were all frantically trying to catch her. Well, Misty just thought this was a very fun game. She had seven grown adults in a circle trying to catch her, and she was much faster than every one of us. We would almost catch her and she would run away again. Cliff and Naomi truly loved that little white dog. Naomi passed away at her home, the Kelvindell Lodge, where she has resided since October 2019. She lost Clifford in December 2020. They were together 64 years and did everything together. You would rarely find one without the other through the years until their later years when health didn’t allow. It rings true that they even spent their last years together. Cliff in the hospital, and Naomi in the lodge. Even through Covid, they were still able to be together quite a bit. I guess they didn’t want to be apart now either. Clifford and Naomi were together always and will be together missed. Funeral Service 1:00 P.M.
