Obituary
Nick was born on October 14, 1926 to Mike and Wasylka Penteluke, on a farm northeast of Insinger. He was the third son in the family of four boys and two girls. He attended a local rural two room school called Aysgarth from grade one to grade eleven. When the Second World War came along, he was pulled into the teaching world with only his grade eleven. With a six-week training course at Normal School he was off to his first school, Vernon Hill near Kelvington. His real interest at the time, was to be involved in the war so in 1944 he enlisted with the air force and was posted for training in Winnipeg but did not see active duty since the war ended. In 1946 he went back to Saskatoon Normal School graduating with an Interim Teaching Certificate. His teaching journey continued; North Lake near Springside (2 yrs), Deer Creek near Sheho (11 yrs), and Bray Ave. School in Foam Lake (4 yrs). In 1965 he took a year off teaching to finish his University Education Degree in Saskatoon. He returned to teach at Foam Lake Composite High School (19 yrs), for a total of 37 yrs in the teaching profession. He retired in 1980. The one thing that Nick took great pride in was that while teaching, he finished his grade 12 through correspondence, received his Permanent Teaching Certificate and finally his Education Degree from The University of Saskatchewan. Even though dad was busy with teaching, taking his upgrading courses and raising a family, he would work summers as a Hail Insurance Adjuster and mark Provincial Departmental Exams, to make ends meet. He volunteered his time helping with minor hockey and softball. He could always be counted on as a volunteer driver. He served on the Seniors Housing Board, the Co-op Board, and he was an active member of The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, acting as secretary and treasurer more than once. It was at Deer Creek School where he met his future wife, Effie Sucholotoky. They were married in 1950 and raised a family of five. They were married for 68 yrs. Nick was predeceased by his wife Effie, parents Mike and Wasylka, brothers George and Stephen, sister Mary. To celebrate his life, Nick leaves behind his daughter Lorraine (Mike) Malone, Calgary; grandsons Sean (2 great grandsons) and Mark, sons Garry (Marianne) Penteluke, Calgary; grandson Ryan, Daren Penteluke, Ottawa; granddaughters Nicole and Natasha, Kyle (Kathy) Penteluke, Saskatoon; grandson Evan, Lyle Penteluke (Yvonne), Saskatoon; sister Emily and brother Bill.
