Obituary
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 2:00 pm at the Grace Lutheran Church in Wynyard. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gudruns memory can be made to the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Visual Research & Equipment Foundation, 202 Westpointe Estates, Regina, SK S4Y 1A4 Tel: 306-757-4442. Gudrun passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012 in Calgary, AB at the age of 100 years. Gudrun was born to Sigurdur and Rannveig Sigbjornson on the family farm east of Leslie, SK. In 1933, she married Bill Dunlop and together they had two children. She taught at Dunlop school near Foam Lake, which was named for her father-in-law Jim Dunlop who donated the land to the school district. In 1962, the family moved to Wynyard where Gudrun taught at the elementary school until she retired. She was actively involved with the Lutheran Church, the Noble Grand of the Royal Purple, a dedicated member of the Nightingale Rebekah Lodge and Past President (1981-1982) of the Rebekah Assembly of Saskatchewan. After the passing of her husband in 1982, Gudrun spent many winter months with her daughter in California and Florida and later moved to Calgary in 2001 to be close to her son. Some of Gudruns earliest memories are of the farm and being free. She enjoyed her doll, bat and ball. She fondly talked about how her Dad would drive them to school every winter day with the sleigh and a team of horses. Her happiest times were Christmas and birthdays. Some of her favourite activities included family trips to Iceland, quilting, bridge and the Annual Dunlop Reunion where she took first place in the clan's Horseshoe tournament at the age of 90. She was especially fond of counting her blessings. She will be forever missed by her sister Allisen King, Edmonton, AB, daughter Hazel Newman, Clearwater, FL, son Bill (Jean) Dunlop of Calgary, AB.; grandchildren Terry Newman of Los Angeles, CA, Jim Newman (Nancy) of Clearwater, FL, Susie Newman of Los Angeles, CA, Kari Dunlop, Angela (Travis) MacKenzie and Kim Dunlop of Calgary, AB and 5 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Sigurdur and Rannveig Sigbjornson, sisters Sigrid Inglehart, Johanna Sigbjornson, and her husband Bill Dunlop.
