Obituary
Dorothy Ivory Denver was born in Regina on March 30, 1927.She grew up on a dairy farm close to Regina. She always had a terrific memory and was even accused of cheating on exams when she was in school until her teacher realized that she could remember, almost word for word, whatever she read. At 15 years old she enrolled at Reliance School of Commerce in Regina. She was a whiz on the typewriter and shorthand which helped her to land a job as a secretary at an early age. Dorothy loved to dance and that is how she met the love of her life, John Cerniuk. They were married on January 19th, 1946. Six children were born to this union, John, Richard, Raymond, Deanna, Sarah, and Paul. Dorothy was fortunate enough to have two trips of a life time. John and Dorothy went to Europe in 1974 to a gathering of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion which they both remembered fondly. Then in 1986, Dorothy and daughter Deanna went to Melbourne, Australia to visit with the Aussi cousins. Dorothy loved to read, do crosswords puzzles, needlepoint work, jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and dominos became a contact sport! She spent many hours at hr sewing machine as she became the “go to” for anyone needing anything from hemming a pair of pants to sewing a wedding dress, or putting a new cover on an old chesterfield. Each member of the family and some extended family have received a piece of her needlework done by her. John passed away in 1989, leaving a big hole in our hearts. Twenty-two years later in 2011, the decision was made to move to Kelvington, leaving that big house in Preeceville that had been home for 42 years. It was a tough thing to get through but with the health issues and failing eye sight, it became necessary to be closer to Deanna and George who have been at her side ever since. Settling into that suite in the Villa took some getting used to but she did make it her own with memories and items she brought her from Preeceville. Dorothy will be remembered for her love of laughter, flowers and people. As well as her farewell back scratches and chocolate. Dorothy is predeceased by her infant son Richard; husband John; daughter-in-law Dale Cerniuk; and grand daughter-in-law Jennifer George. She will be lovingly remembered by her 5 children John, Raymond, Deanna, Sarah, and Paul; 11 grandchildren Cindy, Candy, Andrew, Dan, Brian, Darin, Kerry, James, Cole, Rose Marie, and Diana; great grandchildren Jeremy, Cameron, Elizabeth, Zechariah, Joshua, Naomi, Maysen, Christian, and Jesslyn; one great grandson Silas; and many nieces and nephews. Etended family who always brought a smile to her face: Carmen, Victoria, Makenna, Angelyn, and so many more too numerous to mention.
