Obituary
Due to Province of Saskatchewan guidelines for the COVID-19 the service will be private. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Steve Karakochuk on April 6, 2020 at the age of 91. Steve was born in the Wishart Saskatchewan area to Michael and Mary (Petras) February 4, 1929. Steve grew up on a farm near Bankend. He received his education at Allenby School and St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton. Steve married the love of his life, Stella, in Wishart on July 12, 1954. One of his proudest moments was in 1961, purchasing a farm in the Wishart area. He loved the farm and continued to be part of his life until moving to Golden Acres Care Home in Wynyard. Music was another great love of Steve’s. At an early age he bought himself an accordion and taught himself to play. As a young man he entertained many playing with fellow musicians at weddings and dances. He continued to play into his late eighties. Steve also enjoyed visiting with family and friends, watching hockey and football, playing a good game of horseshoes, or winning at 3-spot. Steve’s inner strength and strong will came from a deep faith in God. His legacy is his hard work and commitment to family. Steve was predeceased by his beloved wife Stella; parents, Mary and Mike; brothers, Andy (Annie) and Joe (Mary); sister Sophie (Tony) Burynuik: brothers-in-law Andy Gilewicz; Don Syrota:parents- in- law Minnie and Carl (Krenkewich). Steve will be lovingly remembered by: his children Mel (Deb) of Saskatoon; Eunice (Wade) Porter of Saskatoon; Jarvis (Trish) of Wishart, his grandchildren Erin (Steve) Yakiwchuk of Saskatoon; Amy (Eric) Rowley of Saskatoon; Cierra Giesbrecht of Saskatoon, Mackenzie Porter of Saskatoon; Thiessen, and Gavin (Peyton); great grandchildren Elodie, Everett; Alerra, Rylee; sisters Josie Gilewicz, Mary Syrota, Grace (Claude) Lefebvre; sister-in-law Irene Krenn.
