Obituary
Karl Edward Sigurdson passed away on August 28, 2014 in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 88 years. "Afi" is lovingly remembered by his family: daughters Anne (David Bocking), Barbara and his sons Michael, Karl (Donna) and Chris (Karen Robb). He is beloved by his grandchildren: Emily, Sarah and Megan Bocking; Graham Sigurdson; Ben Boxall, Jordan and Nicholas Sigurdson. His kind, fair and steady nature always set him apart. Karl was born June 21, 1926 on the farm near Elfros, SK. He was predeceased his wife Hannelore, by his parents Sigurdur and Kristina Sigurdson and by his siblings Oscar (Alice), Olga (Lloyd Flynn), Tommy (Genevieve), Harold (Sophia), Hugh, Pauline Lamothe and brother-in-law Don Kennedy. He is survived by sister Sylvia Kennedy, brother John (Ethel), and brother-in-law Clem Lamothe. Karl served in the Canadian Army in World War II with the Canadian Instructors Cadre. Following WWII he served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Germany. He married Hannelore Schweinebarte, on May 6, 1953 in Hanover Germany and shortly after returned to Canada, to help on the farm and to raise his family. After farming for a while, Karl's career with the Public Service moved his family to Hanley, Viscount, Ashern, Broadview, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Carlyle, and Yorkton. He and Hannelore retired to the family homestead near Elfros in 1983. They resided there, raising horses, pigs and cattle until moving into Wadena in 2008. Karl was a member of many clubs including the Masons, the Canadian Legion and the Vatnabyggd Icelandic Club (Elfros, SK). He made many friends. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received at the Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena and at Veterans' Village at Sherbrooke Community Center in Saskatoon. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Karl's name may make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. Afi has gone home to look after his favourite horses with his Dad and Mother. Hannelore has supper ready on the table. All is well. A celebration of Karl's life and legacy will be held in the Elfros Hall on Saturday, September 27, 2014, starting at 1:30 PM. Condolences can be left at www.narfasons.com.
