Obituary
DePAPE – Darin Charles DePape passed away at home on the farm on April 13, 2020. Darin was born in Langenburg, SK on December 21, 1967 to Fran and Jim DePape, and was the second of four children. He grew up in Churchbridge, SK where he took all of his schooling. Darin spent his youth playing sports, particularly hockey, as well as spending considerable time looking after his brothers. Darin grew up spending every summer camping, fishing and waterskiing at different lakes around Saskatchewan and Manitoba. After high school, he worked for the CO-OP Farm Supply as well as working at the mine for Thyssen Mining Construction. In 1990, Darin was ready for a change and moved to Saskatoon with Dean and Davey where he worked for Anstey Hatchery. After a few years in the big city, Darin decided to move back to small town living and in 1993, he moved to Wynyard where he began his 27 year career at LilyDale Foods. Darin was one of the longest serving employees at the plant and often joked that they couldn’t go on without him. He was a dedicated employee who rarely missed work for any reason. Darin was definitely an interesting character, a one of a kind. He was very much a homebody but he did love to visit with family and friends. If someone wanted to sit down for a drink, or two or five or fifteen, he was your man. He loved visiting and teasing people. Once he got comfortable with the crowd, Darin was often the life of the party. People sometimes ask where his nickname, Bood, came from. Everyone was Bood’s friend and he called everyone Bud, and after a certain number of drinks the pronunciation went from bud to buuud to Bood. Because he said it so often, the boys changed his name from Darin to Bood. In 2004, Darin married local Wynyard girl, Jodi Dupont and they were blessed with three, beautiful girls. Lexi, Lila and Laci were his everything. They were his light, his love, and his reason for life. Darin loved his girls more than anything. He loved them with every piece of his heart and then some. They were all he ever talked about and they made him happier than anything in this world. The time he spent with them was precious and the memories he made with them unforgettable. Whether he was doing chores with them or baking buns with them, he instilled a love of life in them that will last a lifetime. In the last few years, every story he told was a story about the girls and he was so proud of everything they did. He was a proud daddy who would do anything for his girls. After his girls, the Detroit Red Wings were his next love. He loved them for as long as can be remembered and faithfully supported the team through thick and thin. One of his life’s highlights was a trip with a couple of buddies who finally convinced him to go to Detroit. His buddy had some connections in Detroit and they got to visit the Wings where he met some of his heroes, including his all-time hero, Bob Probert. He absolutely loved that experience and still talked about the amazing things they did on that trip. Darin was an extremely proud man and never wanted to ask anyone for help. However, once he moved to the farm, he knew he was a little out of his element and would require the support of a number of people to show him the ropes. In particular, his brother-in-law, Trevor Dupont became his best friend and helped him with almost everything on the farm. Although many would consider Darin the furthest thing from a cowboy, he loved being out in the country working with his animals. He took great pride in his animals and had a great love for them. It didn’t matter if it was horses, goats, chickens, dogs or cats, they were all a part of his family and he enjoyed the work that came along with taking care of them. Darin was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Fran DePape. Darin will be missed more than words can describe by his loving children, Lexi, Lila, and Laci; the mother of his children, Jodi (Jody Dyok) Dupont-DePape; brother, Dale (Veronica) DePape; brother, Dean (Kami) DePape; brother, Davey (Bonnie) DePape; parents in law, Ronald and Ruth Dupont; sister in law, Terrie (Darren) Olson; brother in law, Ashley (Tanya) Dupont; brother in law, Trevor (Myrna) Dupont; and many nieces and nephews.
