Funeral prayers for Mr. Fushtey was held on Friday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Narfason's Funeral Chapel. Divine Liturgy was held on Saturday, March 23rd at the Foam Lake Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Foam Lake SK. Internement to follow in the Foam Lake Cemetery. Fred Fushtey passed away suddenly on March 18, 2013 at the Jubilee Nursing Home. Fred was born on May 13, 1924 in Sheho, SK. In 1933 the family purchased land in the Horse Lake district. Fred farmed with his parents until their retirement. He then farmed with his brother Elmer for many years until he moved to Foam Lake to look after his parents. He continued to farm until 1993 when he retired. For a number of years Fred would work in Toronto at Eatons during the winter months. After retiring from farming, Fred devoted much of his time to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Foam Lake. He served on the church board for many years. Living across the street from the church, he looked after the church keeping the grass cut and the snow shovelled. Fred worked the bingos for many years and helped even when he became ill with Parkinsons. Fred was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Fushtey; his brothers Bill, Matt, Alex, George, Michael and Elmer and his sisters Kay, Irene Kitzul, Marie Tataryn and Alice Braun. Fred will be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.
