Obituary
Bryan James Haskey was born in Wadena, February 7, 1949. He was the 6th child of George and Pauline Haskey. He attended school in Wadena and often reminisced about the good times he had with friends in childhood. On Sundays as a boy he enjoyed going to the United Church in town (and later in the 1970s he served on the church board). Bryan loved hockey and as a young boy could be found on the ice most days of the winter. As a teenager and young man, he played hockey competitively and won many awards including highest goal scorer with the Wildcats in 1972. In the summer of 1967, he met the love of his life, Joan Helgason. In early 1969, Bryan moved to Toronto to work and since then he has treasured the memories of that time. In the summer of 1970, Bryan proposed to Joan, and they were wed on January 2nd, 1971. They started a family farm together just outside of Wadena and were blessed with 4 children. Bryan was a hardworking man who cared about the details of doing a good job. He was very creative, designing and building two lovely homes, landscaping yards, and always striving to make everything (even his fields) as beautiful as possible. Bryan had a great sense of humor and was especially talented at conjuring up puns. You might have said he was "punny." He loved making his family laugh. He was a gregarious, social person, and no matter where he was he found a new friend to talk with. Bryan loved to travel, and the family went on numerous holidays across Canada, the United States and Mexico. Later Bryan and Joan expanded their travels to Asia, Africa and Europe, including a trip to Ukraine to visit the area where his father grew up. Bryan enjoyed discussing current events in the world and was always up to date on the news. He loved the outdoors. He skied in the winter and perfected his yard in the summer. He loved spending time with his family sledding, quadding, skating, skiing or just taking a moment to sit and have a treat. He was loving and thoughtfula real family man.
