Obituary
Funeral Service Thursday, June 19, 2014 2:00 p.m. Foam Lake United Church Foam Lake, SK S0A 1A0 Token Cora Lou (Thomas) Norman was born June 13, 1923 and passed away June 13, 2014 at the Jubilee Nursing Home at the age of 91 years. Token was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Dr. Julian and MyrtleThomas. Her father called her a "Token" of Love when he first laid eyes on his daughter after her birth. In 1930 her father Julian went to Foam Lake to visit friends Steinnun and Ingimundur Eriksson (Inge's) A few weeks later Token ( age 7 yrs) along with her younger brother Dixie were placed on the train to join their father. Dr. Julian spent the summer in Saskatchewan to study the waters of Manitou Lake. He then returned to New York to re-establish his medical practice, but passed away before his children were able to rejoin him. The Inge's raised Token and Dixie as their own, she suddenly had 10 new brothers and sisters. Token went to the Osland school which was a 2.5 mile walk. While there she completed her grade nine. Token met her life-long sweetheart Stephan Norman when he came at the age of 13 to work for the Inge's as a hired man. In 1941 at the age of 18, Token and Stephan were married in Wynyard, SK. That night they returned to Foam Lake to start their lives together. For 58 years they worked side-by-side and raised their family on the original Norman Homestead. As the family grew they built a new home in 1947. Token loved to work in her vegetable garden and tending to her flowers. Family was very important, she was always there for them when they needed a hand or a place to stay. Token cared for those who were sick or could not care for themselves. Token was active member with the Bertdal Ladies Aid and Community Club, TOPS, Elfros Horticulture Society and Foam Lake Museum. After Stephan passed away Token moved to Foam Lake in 2000. She kept her garden and flowers until Parkinson's would no longer allow her body the freedom. Her greatest passion was her grand and great grand children. She was able to make each one feel special and loved. She taught them to cook, sew, knit, and crochet. She always had time to play games, do crafts or go to the lake. She attended many music and dance recitals and skating carnivals. Her patience was endless. In 2010 she moved into the Foam Lake Jubilee Home.
