Obituary
In loving memory of an incredibly amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend... Zdzislaw Domanik Pikul (Zee)(Ziggy) Born in Poland on July 6 1939, where he lived with his family in Nisko Poland until December 1982, when he arrived in Canada to start a new chapter of his life. Zdzislaw passed away peacefully at Pleasantview Care Home in Wadena, SK on November 19, 2018, after a long battle with many different health issues including multiple strokes. He was 79 years old, and passed away the day after his 57th wedding anniversary. He has been survived by his loving wife Urszula Pikul, his daughter Violetta Pikul, and his one and only grandson Joseph Pikul, as well as, his many nieces and nephews back in Poland and many wonderful friends from all over this globe. To know my father was to love my father. He was a man who always showed people that Love is just a simple act of kindness. Something that does not take much effort but means so much. Just the simple gesture of his smile, kind touch, or something funny that he would say to brighten up your day if you weren’t having a very good one. He truly touched many people, but he never asked for anything in return other then your own personal happiness. My father’s love and passion was the outdoors, and he even worked as a Wildlife Conservation Officer back in Poland, for over 10 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was apart of the Polish hunting and fishing clubs back in Vancouver, BC, where he sat as the vice-president of the fishing and hunting community for many many years. But that did not define him, as he was a man of many hats. He self taught himself to do so many things that it is almost too much to list. He was a great cook, who made the most amazing Polish sausage for which he took great pride, and his knack for the best BBQ I have ever had. Everything he did he excelled in, his love for the outdoors had him busy at all times in all seasons, from gardening to mushroom picking, to hiking and boating alike. He was always outside his hands dirty, he was constantly doing something he loved. He also was a mechanic and a contractor, loved soccer and hockey and could watch sports on TV for hours. When he was healthy he loved to play soccer and go fishing and hiking, anything that got him outside. He passed that love of the outdoors down to his family and friends as he was always going somewhere, no matter the season, from ice fishing in the winter, to camping in the summer, he was always outdoors. He put his family above all things, and gave so much of himself so that his family could prosper and have the best life had to offer even at his own expense. He never asked for anything for himself and would gladly go without if it was going to be good for someone else. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back and you didn’t even have to ask him for it, no questions asked he was always selfless and giving of himself and of what he had. His motto was “that even if I give it all I will always have enough, as long as I have my family”. He loved to cook and was always tinkering in the kitchen .. the oven and stove on full blast as he created his masterpieces ... goulash and stews... roasts and soups, he would read a cookbook from front to back, like it was his favorite book ... he did not own a shirt that did not have splashes of food on the front as he was always tasting and trying new things ... he built a smoke house from scratch and used it to perfect his love for sausage and smoked meats and fish ... He loved food and loved to eat ... he was always happy to share his plate and his table with family and friends and even if there was only 4 people there would be enough food on the table to feed and entire army .. Its difficult to put a label on my dad as he was truly a very unique and special kind of person .. he did not always have many things to say .. but when he spoke you wanted to listen because he had great wisdom and knowledge and insight and it always helped guide you to the right choices and decisions... He taught me the value of hard work and the beauty of accepting that we are not perfect and that our flaws make us special and unique .. and that we shouldn’t want it any other way... he radiated kindness and love and never backed away from a problem... even when life gave many obstacles he always found a way to keep things positive and move forward ... he was strong .. a fighter and even in his death he showed that he would never give up... Even when the pain was almost too much for him to take he would smile and say he was Ok.. even though you knew he wasn’t .... he was that strong .. and he never wanted anyone to see him suffer as he did not want anyone to ever hurt ... he would carry that cross for everyone... putting on a smile even in the darkest of moments .. always putting everyone above himself... a truly selfless soul ... one filled with love and compassion for all. Zdzislaw is survived by his wife Urszula Pikul daughter Violetta Pikul and grandson Joseph Pikul. Zdzislaw was Predeceased by his mother Anna Ogonowska Pikul who died at child birth with my father, his father Wiktor Pikul, his aunt Cecilia Lusney who raised him like a mother, uncle Steve Lusney.
