Donations in memory of Mel may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation - 2360 2nd Ave, Regina, SK S4R 1A6 Melvin Wayne Holowaty was born September 16, 1948 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan to parents Lily and Steve Holowaty. He was raised on the family farm and was the eldest of six. His early school days were spent in a Malby one room school and then later attended school in Foam Lake where he graduated in 1966. Mel then attended the University of Saskatchewan, received his Standard A in teaching, and taught in Davidson for two years. On September 2, 1972, Mel married the Love of his life, Jeannie. He then returned to University for one year and completed his education degree, got a job at Wadena Elementary, and they settled in. Mel received his second degree, a Bachelor of Science in 1981. He continued his career in Wadena until his retirement in 2000. Mel enjoyed many years of teaching, raising a family, curling, playing fastball, camping, traveling, and volunteering. Mel and Jeannie embarked on an adventure in 2000 to travel down South and eventually ended up living in Halifax. In 2002, Mel and Jeannie returned to Wadena. Love encircled Mel’s total being and he showed this with his undying love to his wife, patience he gave to his children, joy with time spent with his grandchildren, gratefulness for his family and extended family, and acceptance and kindness to all he met. For all those reasons, he taught so much more than Math or teamwork. Mel’s face always lit up when someone entered the room. His commitment to others was seen in taking Grade 6’s on a overnight trip to Marine Lake, coaching ball, coaching hockey, working at sporting events and spending countless time at the school after hours. He was so much fun to be around because of his strong sense of playfulness, whether it was being the life of the party, acting silly with his family, or laughing with friends. Mel was a determined, courageous, and persistent individual. He exemplified this in his later years with his positive attitude and perseverance. Mel stayed true to his faith in Christianity. He instilled and demonstrated his beliefs in his actions and through his Love. Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Jeannie and his children, Julie (Rob) Hamilton and James (Lindsey) Holowaty. “Papa” will also be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren, William, Karma, Kiefer and Aonghas Hamilton, and Drew Holowaty; by his siblings Sharon (Father John) Gryba, Jane (Taga) Kristensen, Gail (Gary) Goodman, and Dennis, and Garry Holowaty; and by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his father Steve. Rest in peace Husband, Dad, Papa. Love You, Love You, Love You
