Obituary
A Graveside memorial for Alf will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11:30 a.m Kelvingrove Cemetery, Kelvington, Sask Lunch to follow in the Kelvington Legion Hall Please bring a chair if you require on. It is with great sadness that we announce the accidental passing of our father, Alf Nilsen, 4 December 2012. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle; he was pre-deceased by his parents Olaf and Eva, his wife Mabel, and sisters and brothers: Ethel, Borghild, Roal, and Lloyd. He is survived by a son Linden (Karen), and daughters Marlene (Derek), Elva (Laurie), Susan (Jeff) and Carolyn (Brad) as well as 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, a sister Aagot, brother Fred, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alf was born on March 22, 1923 and raised in Kelvington. He attended Roscommon School and then high school in Kelvington. He worked briefly in BC before signing up for army service. He trained at Camp Bordon in Ontario and saw action overseas including England and continental Europe. He was later posted with the peacekeeping troops in Germany, and spent some time in Norway before returning home. He married Mabel Wallster, a local school teacher, in 1952 and together they farmed south of Kelvington, on land that has now been in the family for more than a century. He was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up with current events, visiting with friends and neighbors, and the outdoors. He will be missed by all who knew him.
