Obituary
Funeral for the late Nick Husak was held on Friday August 3rd in the Wynyard Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 10:00 a.m. with internment in the Pleasantview Cemetary in Wynyard. Those wishing to make tokens of remeberance may do so to the Golden Acres Lodge in Wynyard. Nick was born to Daniel and Fedora Husak on December 6, 1914, near the village of Zaleschee in the province of Volyne in Ukraine. At the age of 13 he boarded a ship with his father, step-mother and four siblings, and sailed across the Atlantic to Halifax where they arrived at Pier 21 on June 30, 1928, seeking a better life. They then travelled by train across the country to St. Walburg, Sask. near the end of the rail line. After a few days there, they continued south by horse and wagon to Kandahar and then west of Wishart to the Larisa district and the original family homestead. Nick worked with his father on the farm and also in the area for Henry Olsen and Harvey Perry. In 1934 he bought his own home quarter a mile to the south of his parents and soon moved there with his new bride Stephania. There they raised four daughters and operated the family farm for 40 years. In the fall of 1977 they moved to Wynyard and made this their new home. Late last year Nick became a resident of Golden Acres Nursing Home until his passing on Monday, July 30, 2012, at the age of 97. Nick was predeceased by his loving wife Stephania; father Daniel and step-mother Zenovia; brothers, John and Pete; sister Stephania; step-brother Gordon Mykolychuk; and mother Fedora and brothers, Andrew and Michael in Ukraine. He is survived by his daughters, Laurice (Gabe), Audrey, Iris (Matthew), Myrna (Lyle); 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great, greatgrandchildren; sisters, Laurica Hess of Victoria, Vera Senkiw of Wynyard, Olga Chalmers and Nadia Cotts of Saskatoon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. One of Nicks passions was farming and being on the land. He successfully farmed for 65 years, enjoying the harvest of a good crop and all the seasons of the year. He took pride in his farm and he made sure his livestock was well cared for. He was very innovative and mechanically inclined and could build and repair almost anything. Another great joy in his life was fishing. He started fishing off the shores of Long Lake and soon built his own boat. Nick and Stephania then acquired a cabin at Fishing Lake and enjoyed many years at the lake. Every opportunity he had when the farm work was done, he was on the water finding the right spot to drop in a line and catch fish. Nick travelled all throughout the province fishing for more than 50 years and numerous great fishing stories are still remembered today. He truly enjoyed nature and the outdoors; the farm and fishing constantly allowed him to be in contact with these. The most important thing to Nick was his family. He was the family foundation and he only wanted the best for his family and all those in his life. This is evident by his loving marriage to Stephania for 74.5 years, an incredible milestone. Nick was a thoughtful and kind husband, father, and gedo. He was humble and modest, exceptionally caring, and had a huge heart. He was a patient teacher who always made time for you. He was an honest and fair man who helped his neighbors when needed and always contributed to his church and community. Those who knew him well would tell you all of this without hesitation. He simply was an incredible man. He will always be remembered as our wonderful Dad and Gedo whom we will miss immensely and who will always remain in our hearts. Vichnaya Pamyat " Memories Eternal
