Obituary
Funeral for the late Joseph Kizlyk of Saskatoon, husband to the late Mary Kizlyk and father to Dianne Brown of Cranbrook, British Columbia was held on Sunday, December 30 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wadena Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial to follow in the Fosston Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Fosston, SK. Memorial Donations may be made to The Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Fund - Fosston, Sk. p.o. box 333, Wadena, SK, SOA 4JO. Joseph Kizlyk was born on May 11, 1922, on the farm in the Fosston district to Paul and Tina Kizlyk. Joe married Mary Yamniuk on June 15, 1946, at Fosston. To this union one daughter, Dianne, was born. Joe and Mary ran the local Fosston General Store for 29 years. He also loved to retell his experiences and times while working at building and repairing elevators throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In 1976, Mary and Joe sold the store and built a house in Fosston, where they resided for three years before relocating to Saskatoon where he lived until his passing. Joe and Mary enjoyed hosting extended family and friends and after Mary's passing in 2006, he continued to live alone in his own home and cooking for himself. Although daughter Dianne was only a phone call away, his neighbours and friends kept a watchful eye out for him and were alwasy avaliable to give a hand or a ride when needed. Joe was very proud of his garden and was strict with his diet always having homemade soup canned. Joe recieved bypass surgery 24 years ago and was the third longest living bypass patient. He managed many years with impaired vision and was very concerned about always eating healthy. Joe had the amazing ability to repair almost anything, if he couldn't find a part to complete his repair, he would just make it. Joe was talented at inventing many this of necessity for neighbours, friends and family. He also loved making people laugh. He was predeceased by Mary, his wife of 60 years; his parents; sister Anne (Bill) Nickolet, Lena (Alex) Kryzanowski, Elmilia (Fred) Maryniak and Polly Kizlyk, and his brothers, Pete (Olga) and Bill (Anne). Joe leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Dianne (Ross) Brown; three granddaughters, Donalie, Debbie and Darla, and their families, including nine great-grandchildren, all of Cranbrook, B.C.; and one sister, Kate Churley, of Toronto.
