Obituary
Donations in memory of Fran may be to SARBI - #5-501 45th Street West Saskatoon, SK S7L 5Z9 Frances Glenna (Upton) Ditter was born to Glen & Edna Upton on December 14, 1946. Fran was the eldest of 8 children. Fran was a great help to her mom, as her mother had several health issues, while she was growing up. At the early age of 12, Fran quit school, to help her mom out at home with her younger siblings. At this point the rest of Frans life, was defined as a caregiver and mother to all. Fran was born in the Kelvington Union Hospital, but a part of her heart was always in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland where her family had moved back to when Fran was very young. The Upton family moved back to Saskatchewan and resided here for the rest of their lives. Fran married Ronald Ditter on June 8, 1963. This was the start of the next chapter of her life. Fran had 4 children from this union Iris Guicheteau, (Jeff), Mona Belanko, Jason (Vanessa) Charles (Tonya). Fran became Ron’s right hand man and indispensable part of their farm life. Fran herself would tell you that her life as a child where there wasn’t enough or any food at all defined her love of gardening so that her family and others would never go hungry. Fran’s life revolved around the “food service industry” she worked at Peterson’s Auction Market in the kitchen, the concession stand for hockey school, and the Drive Inn. She also cooked meals for the Yellow Quill Reserve graduation and many more. In 2000, she purchased the house which became “Fran’s Country Kitchen”. Fran used to wash clothes at the Laundromat and would say to herself, “I’m going to own that house some day.” After Mrs. Spray passed away, and the house was for sale Fran’s dream became a reality. Through her business she did catering, meals on wheels, cooking meals for residents of the villa and just supplying a meal for anyone in need. Fran also offered her tables in the evening of many a card game. As a need arose in the community for many of the single residents with nowhere to go for the Christmas holidays – Fran stepped up and supplied a meal and friendship to all. Fran was an avid collector. To some they would ask of what? Fran herself would tell you, “Everything she liked, the old, new, unique, and unusual.” If you were ever lucky enough to have Fran show you her collection, you were amazed. She would usually be able to tell you a story of how she came to have that item in possession. Fran was also a very talented drawer and had a great love of colors. The inside of her business attested to her “Neufie” roots. She took great pride in the flower beds that surrounded her business. In 2016, Fran retired. This was Fran’s last chapter of a life with more chapters that could be written in a lifetime. Fran was a very single minded, strong person but after an accident that broke her shoulder and arm she was forced to accept help. This was also the beginning of many health issues. To all those who knew our mother, this is just one part of her life. Her life was her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. She was a generous, loving and all around strong woman. If you want, insert your chapter or chapters into Fran's life and hopefully in your remembrance you have a smile on your face. Her family, friends and all that knew of her will have a place in their heart for her until they meet again. She will be missed.
