Obituary
Gina was born in Lestock, Saskatchewan on Jan. 16, 1950 and passed away peacefully on April 14, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Sadie Keyowski of Wishart Saskatchewan and infant brother Joseph. Gina is survived by her husband Kenneth, of 43 years of marriage and by her children: Vance (Sheila) of Barrier Lake, Daryl (Sheila) of Lethbridge and Allan (Brenda) of Carstairs and her 4 grandchildren; Andrew, Wyatt, Dallas and Kyle. She is also survived by her siblings: Elizabeth (Alex), Patrick, Wayne, Richard (Chris) and Roseanne (Alan). Gina grew up on the family farm, South of Wishart and attended Allenby Country School from grade 1 to 8 and then finished her schooling in Wishart where she graduated. While working at Pete Bashutski’s General Store in Lestock she met her husband to be, fell in love, and eventually moved to Prince George B.C. In B.C. she worked as a typist performing clerical work. Later they returned to Saskatchewan and lived on a farm by Lestock where they raised their three children. While living on the farm, Gina always had a large garden where she grew enough vegetables to last all winter long and into the next summer. Gardening was something she enjoyed and after leaving the farm she always found a way to grow a garden, even if the garden was a few planters on a patio or flowers for the summer. Spring never went by without a visit to a local green house. She served as a leader in the 4-H club, taught catechism, and enjoyed sewing and crafts. Enjoying time with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and any child that crossed her path; she deeply enjoyed them, and they always brought a smile to her face. As a farmer’s wife, she was not just a mother or grandmother but she was also ready and able to drive a grain truck (even without power steering), a tractor or combine, or help with all the duties that cattle required. In 1997 Ken and Gina sold the family farm and moved west to Calgary and then eventually further west to Vanderhoof B.C. where many of her siblings still reside. After enjoying the forest land, and once far away family, for a few years they returned to Calgary and Ginas’ green thumb ounce again found her work at a large greenhouse growing tomatoes almost year round. From there they moved to Carstairs, Ab for a few years and then eventually returned to Saskatchewan to help her oldest son with the resort he had purchased at Barrier Lake. There she met many good friends and once again enjoyed the country life she grew up with. Aside from enjoying cards, board games and even gaming on the internet, skidooing, fishing, and cutting fire wood were activities she always enjoyed. Gina was a strong and determined person, always energetic and on the go. Her compassionate nature and caring personality will be greatly missed.
