Cora Rose Chorney was born to Clarence and Louise Nelson on October 15, 1926, in Watson, Saskatchewan. “Rose” attended the Sigstad, Script, and Quill Lake schools. Rose married Ernest Nelson on December 12, 1945 and moved to the Nels Nelson homestead. Rose and Ernest had eight children, Larry, Maureen, Marjorie, Donna, Landis, Durelle, Rick, and Roxie. Rose worked as a cook, nurses aid, desk clerk, homemaker and motel manager. As well as, spent countless hours working on the farm tending to animals, gardening, mending and baking. Rose was a hard worker and while raising her children her focus was on providing for them. Rose enjoyed going to dances with her children. In her later years, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, baking, curling, and fishing. Well into her 80’s, she drove many miles to visit family and friends. Rose loved to see her family and friends smile and always kept them on their toes with her witty comments and creative card playing. Rose’s family meant everything to her and although she lived in numerous towns throughout her life, she spent most of her life living in the Rose Valley area and in the town of Wadena. Rose passed away on March 4, 2017 at the age of 90, with family by her side. Left to cherish her memory and mourn her passing are her children, Larry (Belle) of Donalda, AB; Donna (Bruce) Lazar of Wadena, SK; Landis (Bea) Nelson of Forestburg, AB; Durelle (Don) Hanley of Wadena, SK; Rick (Dalice) Nelson of Wadena, SK; and Roxie (Owen) Wickstrom of Wadena, SK.; 26 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Rose was predeceased by two daughters, Maureen Lupien and Marjorie Hanson; grandson, Justin Hanley; parents, Clarence and Louise Nelson; brothers, Emil, Lawrence and Donald; and sister, Eleanor Nelson. Funeral service was held on March 10, 2017 at the Chapel of Narfason’s, Wadena, Sk, officiated by Heather Nakrayko,funeral celebrant. Interment to take place at a later date.
