Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 7, 2015 2:00 p.m. Kelvington United Church Kelvington, Saskatchewan George, the eldest of five children, was born April 14, 1917 at the farm in the Nut Lake District to Alfred and Edith (nee Davis) Derbyshire. The family later moved to the Brand district. The yard site was on Hwy. 49 3 ½ miles west of Kelvington where the anhydrous tanks are situated. He attended Duck Creek, Orpington and Brand Schools. After taking his grade six, he was taken out of school to help on the farm. He purchased land across the road from his dad's. During the winters of the late 30's he worked in the bush for Willard Hall. On Nov. 1, 1939 he married Clarice Watt. In 1941 they moved , with baby Carol, to SE 23-37-12-W2nd (purchased from Stewart Watt). While there along came Don, George, Raymond and Dayla. They farmed until 1976 when they sold their farm to Tony and Vangie Lechman. They then moved into Kelvington. George served his community as school board member for Batestown School District, Credit Union board member for 28 years, Kelvington Municipal council member for nine years and Reeve for four years, Regional Councillor representing municipalities in SARM, chairman of the Kelvington Conservation and Development Association and of the Nut Lake Watershed Association, member of the Agricultural Society, the Kelvington Hospital Board and was on the steering committee for Kelvindell Lodge, serving as both their vice-chairman and chairman, chairman of the building committee for the Kelvington Arena and the Preeceville-Kelvington "Save Our Rail Line" committee. He served on the Kelvington Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club, the Canadian Order of Foresters and Mallard Industries. Major accomplishments during his times in office were the building of the Veterinary Clinic, the Administration Building, Canadian Co-op Implements Ltd., the first Credit Union Building and the CPR tracks from the west into Kelvington. He was recognized with the RCMP "Citizen of the Year Award. When George retired in Kelvington he volunteered to drive the Transit Bus and maintained Kelvingrove Cemetery for several years. George became the local representative for Graveside Memorials of Saskatoon (1981-2005) and maintained Narfason's Funeral Chapel in Kelvington. George loved fishing, curling, playing Norwegian whist, cribbage and travelling. He won several "Oldest Male Rider" awards at the Kelvington Trailblazers Snowmobile Derby's, Perigord's "Thrill of the Hills" Sno-Derby, Lintlaw 75 and Archerwill Drift Riders Derby. He also participated in the Duck Creek Derby. George loved the farm, especially the animals. He was very proud of his herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle and had a special place in his heart for his horses. George entered Kelvindell Lodge in 2010. It was there that he passed peacefully to be reunited with the love of his life, Clarice . George was predeceased by his wife Clarice, his parents, his 3 sisters and their spouses, Gertrude and(Joe) Walters, Lila and (Norman Fernwalt, Jessie and (Ken Bjornerud) and his brother James Derbyshire, son Raymond, grandsons Alfred Derbyshire and Gregory N. Lowey and son-in-law Vernon Lowey. Left to treasure his memory are children Carol Lowey, Donald (Del) Derbyshire, George B. (Deanna) Derbyshire and Dayla (Blake) Shirley. Grandchildren, Kevin,Daryl (Barb) and Trevor (Tammy) Lowey; Barry (Theresa), Cory ( Michelle ) and Donita Derbyshire; Brian (Bridgette) and Darin (Donnita) Derbyshire; Kristin (Dillion Lindholm) and Morgan Shirley. George was also a very proud Great Grandpa to 13 and Great Great Grandpa to one. He will also be fondly remembered by Del's children, sisters in law Carey (Derbyshire) Thordarson, Doreen (George) Doerr and Dorothy LeBlanc and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Kelvindell Lodge for making Dad's life as pleasant as possible during his last five years. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends.
