Obituary
Funeral Service for the late Evelyn Jones was held on Wednesday September 5,2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wadena Baptist Church. Internment to follow in the Wadena Town Cemetary. Evelyn Christina Jones was born in Midale, Saskatchewan on June 10, 1929. She was the first of three girls born to Martin and Signe Lindbom. The girls and their parents lived on a farm near Midale until their fathers death in 1939 when Evelyn was only ten. After his death they moved from their farm home to the house on the hill in town which today serves as a pioneer home for the Souris Valley Antique Association. Evy finished high school in Midale at the age of 17 by compressing the usual three years into two. As the area was desperate for teachers, she attended Normal School in Moose Jaw for only weeks before being sent out to teach in a one room school near Tribune, SK. For the next few years she continued her schooling during the summer, and taught in other locations in southern Saskatchewan. In those years she lived in the teacherage next to the school and would have to start the fire at the school before students arrived. Later she was chosen to serve in Gods Invasion Army from January"December of 1952 as they traveled through parts of the northern US. When she returned she lived at Midale again and drove to teach at Macoun each day from 1953 to 1963. During the summers she worked as a camp counselor. It was while serving as a counselor at Round Lake Bible Camp near Whitewood that she first met Ken. They met again in the fall of 1961 at a camp council meeting in Wadena, and were formally introduced later in the winter of 1962. They were engaged on November 17, 1962 in Regina. The couple wed in Midale, Saskatachewan on July 13, 1963. Their daughter Colleen was born on June 19, 1964 and their son Brent 13 months later on July 19, 1965. They built a home along Hwy 35 and farmed just south of Wadena for thirty years. During those years Evelyn kept busy raising a family, gardening, substitute teaching, quilting, and helping her husband run the mixed farm. Evelyn was a very active member of the Wadena Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the executive of the Womens Mission Circle, served as treasurer, and on the 70th and 80th church anniversary planning committees. She also served on the local Band Parents Association, the local Museum Board, on committees to arrange Friendship Teas, the annual World Day of Prayer services, the 75th anniversary of Wadena, and on the Wadena History Book Committee. In 1992 she received a certificate of recognition from the Town of Wadena in appreciation of her years of volunteer service to the community. In 1993 Evelyn and Ken moved from the farm to their current home on 2nd Street NE in Wadena. Their home was always open for coffee or tea and a little something sweet. There was always someone invited over for supper and fellowship or for a Bible study. She and Ken travelled after their retirement to visit family and friends and enjoy their grandsons. She always carried her address book with her on their travels so that she could call the family, friends, or acquaintances that she knew in that community. It was important to her to stay in touch so that everyone knew she was thinking of them. As Evelyn aged she developed Alzheimers and because of that she moved into Pleasant View Care Home in the fall of 2010. After a sudden illness, she went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Evelyn was predeceased by her infant brother Bertil (1934), father Martin (1939), and mother Signe (1997). Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Ken, daughter Colleen (Darryl) Lindenbach of Calgary, AB, and son Brent (Lorraine) of Surrey, BC, grandsons Devon Lindenbach, Kyle Jones, Bradon Jones, and Tavian Lindenbach as well as sisters Blanche James (Kamloops, BC) and Pearl Screpnek (Yorkton, SK). She will also be missed by many other family and friends. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 5 at 2pm in the Wadena Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Wadena Cemetery with Narfasons Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
