Obituary
Jim was born on September 18, 1943 to Fred and Myrtle Leffler in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest of four children, and grew up on the family farm west of Rose Valley, working alongside his father. Jim attended Robinsdale Public School up until grade 8, and then worked on the family farm until he was old enough to work away on the diamond drills during the winters. Jim met Colleen when they were children, but their story together did not begin until much later. When Jim heard Colleen had returned from work in Alberta, he was quick to pick her up in his 56’ blue ford car- his “hot rod.” Jim married Colleen Hanson on October 22, 1966 and shortly after they bought a farm near Rose Valley. Together they raised four children, Darcy, Lawney, Troy and Shauna. Jim worked on the diamond drills, drove semi hauling cattle, and cut meat in Pugh’s butcher shop before deciding to follow his passion and farm full time. Jim was a hard worker, maintaining his farm for close to 54 years. On the farm Jim and his wife grew crops, raised cattle, and kept up with a huge garden making sure he had a plentiful supply of his favourite vegetable-the fresh cucumbers. To Jim it wasn’t a cow unless it was black, wasn’t a tractor unless it was green and wasn’t a truck unless it was ford. Jim sold all of his cattle and retired from grain farming in 2010. In Jim’s retired life he became a full time employee at Prosko Farms, not being able to part with work and farming. Jim, the foreman, enjoyed the countless hours he spent there, especially in the spring and during harvest, with who he referred to as his second family. He also enjoyed time spent with family and friends, he was happy to strike up conversation with just about anyone. He loved to be a part of all eleven grandchildren's lives, making it to as many of their events as possible; dance recitals, hockey games, curling games and volleyball matches. Jim was predeceased by his parents Fred and Myrtle, brother Alvin, sister Linda, father and mother in law Herman and Corrine Hanson and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. James (Jim) Frederick Leffler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away in Kelvington, Saskatchewan on July 23, 2020 at 76 years old.
