Obituary
Verna passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 3rd, 2018, at the age of 97. She was the second child born to Wasyl and Rose Hudyma of Sheho, Sask. on July 28th, 1920. She attended Rivington School and completed Grade 10, then helped on the family farm. On Oct 30th, 1938 Verna married Charlie Harris. Together they farmed the family homestead of Peter Harris south of Foam Lake. They had two sons, Walter and Wayne. They remained on the farm until 1989, then moved into Foam Lake when Charlie became ill. Verna was a quiet and patient lady and was always willing to help others. She was a active member of both local and national Ukrainian Orthodox Women’s Associations. She was the secretary for the local branch for 28 years, keeping records in both English and Ukrainian. For several years she taught Sunday school locally and at the youth summer camps at Crystal Lake. Verna was an active volunteer in the community including the Jubilee Nursing Home (where her mother was a resident until her passing, at 102 years); eventually Verna herself became a resident, for the last 3 ½ years. She also made time for her many hobbies.... knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, etc. She was very skillful in making and decorating wedding cakes. Her cakes were in the centre of hundreds of smiling bride/groom photographs. Verna was predeceased by her parents, husband Charlie (1990), son Wally (2013) and brothers, Oliver and Michael. Left to mourn her loss is: her son, Wayne (Lillian); daughter-in-law Louise of Medicine Hat and grandchildren, Charles (Margret) and Michelle (Helen), all of Ontario; her brother Wally of Wynyard; sister Mildred of Brunswick, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
