Damien’s life was taken from him at the tender young age of 16 years old on April 23, 2020 in Regina, SK. Damien was a joy who brought light to any room that he entered with his positive energy and great humor, he could enter a room full of strangers and walk out with a room full of friends. His smile was contagious, and he had a genuine care for his family and friends, whom he loved to spend quality time. Damien always made sure everyone knew how much he appreciated the love and support that he received; he was passionate about his culture and loved to learn, following the guidance and teachings of his adopted grandfather Peter Nippi. Damien is survived by his maternal grandparents Alvin “Bill” Sangret and April Joy Desjarlais; biological mother Danielle Desjarlais; his beloved adopted mother Hilda Desjarlais; adopted father Brian Desjarlais; adopted grandmother Delores Kinequon; adopted grandfather Peter Nippi; brothers Brent Sunshine, Paul Desjarlais, Jared Desjarlais, Jarrel Desjarlais, Charles Bighead Jr., Dylan Sunshine, Preston Desjarlais and Brian Desjarlais; sisters Laura Nataucappo, Melissa Sunshine-Kakakaway, Elizabeth Sunshine, and Tiahna Sunshine; aunties Keestin Wilson, Bailey Sangret, Verna Desjarlais, Linda Desjarlais, and Beverly Smoke; uncles Ricky Desjarlais, Ryan Desjarlais, Daniel Wilson, and Malcolm Desjarlais; special cousins Elysia Bighead and Jemiliah Desjarlais; and his beloved cat, Waffles. Predeceased by Uncles Colin Wolfe, Billy Lockhart, David Desjarlais and Ivan Desjarlais. Damien had numerous kokums, mushums, aunties, uncles, cousins & friends in his life, near and far. Damien will be greatly missed by all who knew him, a big thank you to those who loved and cared for Damien throughout his life - may his memory live through each and every person who loved him.
