In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Golden Acres Nursing Home Auxiliary, Wynyard, Saskatchewan. Helen passed away peacefully on December 24, 2018. She was born September 12, 1919 to Elton and Elizabeth Ford on the family farm near Elfros. Helen had an older brother Bill and younger sister Marion. She rode her horse to and from the Quill Valley School in Elfros. Helen attended the Bishop’s School of Cosmetology in Saskatoon with her cousin Florence Smith. They set up a hairdressing business in Wynyard. Eventually Helen set up her beauty parlour at home, working until age 80. She remained in the family home until moving to Westview, Regina and most recently Golden Acres. Helen met Bjorgvin (Bert) Goodman at a dance in Dafoe. They had a quick romance, married at the Wynyard United Church on December 1, 1944, and settled in Wynyard where they raised their family- Marilee, Robert and Melissa. Helen and Bert were both active in the local business and social community; they came to know almost everyone in the vicinity. Helen had flowers throughout her house and yard. Her deck was covered with flowers. Knitting was a favorite hobby and she made and gifted Icelandic sweaters, scarves, mitts, socks, afghans, and baby items. Her chocolate cake and apple pie were family favorites. Helen was predeceased by her husband Bert, her daughter Marilee Johannesson, her granddaughter Cindy Johannesson, son-in-law Rodney Johannesson, brother Bill Ford, sister-in-law Marguerite Ford, and sister Marion Ford. Helen will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children Robert Goodman (Agnes), Melissa Goodman (Jim Gares), grandchildren Randy Johannesson (Karen), Rick Johannesson (Darlene), Ron Johannesson (Julie), Kirk Goodman (Angie), Meghan Goodman (Jared Schidlowsky) and Larissa Goodman, eleven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, nephews and niece Doug, Brian and Debbie Ford. Helen was a kind, loving, humble, generous person with a heart of gold.
