Gladys Marie Meiklejohn (nee Ebner) passed away peacefully on September 29th, 2013 at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. She was born July 31, 1931 to George and Anna (nee Wapple) Ebner of Carmel, SK, the eldest of five children. She took her schooling in a one room school at Carmel, then spent grade 11 and 12 at Humboldt Collegiate. She completed her education at Teachers College in Saskatoon. Gladys went on to teach at Wilfred School, west of Middle Lake and then at Leavenworth School near Lake Lenore. In 1954, Gladys went to Quill Lake to teach. Gladys met her future husband, Jim Meiklejohn while she was working in Quill Lake. They married November 20, 1957. Gladys and Jim raised a family of five children: Kevin, Lori, Christal, Jeff and Trevor. Gladys gave up her teaching career in order to raise her family. Gladys and Jim farmed for many years, eventually moving to the farm for summers and back to town for winters. Gladys was a member of the Kinette Club, Minor Sports, St. Catherines Womens League, the Figure Skating Club, and Quill Lake Legion. She enjoyed curling and bowling and took part in bonspiels around the countryside. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, and attending as many of her familys activities as possible. Gladys and Jim loved to travel and their trips took them to Florida, Branson, the Maritimes and Nashville. The Minot Hostfest was a favorite event of theirs. Gladys is survived by four children: Lori (Bye) Braun of Cut Knife, SK and family Skye (Nick Pernitsky) and children Kaiden, Taryn and Mailey, Ashton (Caine Stuparyk), Tanner and Taylor; Christal (Lance) Nordick of Englefeld, SK and family Troy (Krystal) and children Adelita and Lane, Amber (Matt) Govan and children Paige and Jordyn, Brianna (Chad) Haworth, Shayne (Brittney) and son Eli; Jeff (Sherri) Meiklejohn of Castle Rock, Colorado and family Dennon and Sabrina; and Trevor (Nicole) Meiklejohn of Sherwood Park, AB and family Chanel, Tyler and Hailey; one daughter-in-law: Jane Meiklejohn of LeRoy, SK and family Brad (Whitney), Brett, and Brandon; and one sister: Colleen (Wayne) Schidlowsky, of Humboldt, SK. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Alec (Anne) Rosen, George (Ilene) Meiklejohn, Ray (Carol Sue) Meiklejohn, and Bob (Helen) Meiklejohn. Gladys is predeceased by her husband Jim, son Kevin, brothers Donald Ebner and Ken Ebner, and sister Dianne Rosen. The funeral mass for Gladys was held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Quill Lake Legion Hall, Quill Lake, SK, celebrated by Fr. Daryl Millette. Others taking part were: Brandon Meiklejohn, cross bearer; Sabrina Meiklejohn and Chanel Boyko, memorial book attendants; Christal Nordick, eulogist; Nicole Meiklejohn and Sherri Meiklejohn, scripture readers and intentions; Wayne and Colleen Schidlowsky, giftbearers, and the Quill Lake Community Choir, music ministry. Gladys was accompanied in the procession by her granddaughters Ashton Braun, Taylor Braun, and Brianna Haworth. Active pallbearers were grandchildren Brad Meiklejohn, Shayne Nordick, Brett Meiklejohn, Dennon Meiklejohn, Troy Nordick and Tanner Braun. Honourary pallbearers were: Elsie Detkavich, Marie Harcourt, Bea Grey, Betty Romaniuk, Gertrud Hoesgen, Shirley Ulmer, Diana McGregor, and Ivonne Josephson. Honor guard was performed by members of Quill Lake Legion. Interment followed at the Quill Lake Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to either the Quill Lake First Responders, the Quill Lake Legion Hall, or the St. Catherine`s Church.
