Memorial service for Kay will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Wynyard, Sk. Brooks, Katherine (Kay) (nee Lasko) January 1, 1920 to March 14, 2014 Kay was born in the Shawlands District near Kelliher. She was the 7th of 8 children of Molly (Kryk) and Nick Lasko. Kay always remembered visiting family and friends in the area, and spoke lovingly of the people she knew as a child. Kay left her home to work in Regina, and in 1950 she married Jack Brooks of Dafoe. They lived in Saskatoon, then moved to the Copeland area to farm. When they left the farm, they lived in Dafoe, Elfros, and Wynyard, and owned a number of businesses. Jack and Kay had a garage and cafe in Elfros, and Kay cooked and managed the cafe. In Wynyard she was a stay at home mother and homemaker. Kay always worked hard. She loved to cook and bake, and was known for her wonderful meals, bread and pies, and continued to share her baking and preserves well into her 90s. Kay was an active member of St. Margarets Anglican Church, the Anglican Church Women, and the Eastern Star. She was a devoted Christian, and enjoyed studying the Bible. Kay was a loving sister and friend, and spoke to her sister, Anne, every day of her life. She adored her granddaughters and was very proud of them, and they in turn admired her courage, humour, and kindness. Kay is survived by daughters Pat Anderson (Ken) and her daughters Rachael and Emily of Calgary, Jacqueline Brooks of Saskatoon, and son in law Ralph Starks of Prince Albert and his daughters Alison and Katherine; brother John Lasko (Anne), niece Rose Marie Lorenz (Harold), her sisters in law Shirley Brooks, Betty Mebs, Stella Staples, and Edna Brooks, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children. She is predeceased by her husband Jack in 2005, daughters Valerie in 1960 and Joyce in 2010, her parents, and siblings Bill, Richard, Harry, Mary, Anne, and Rose. The family wish to thank the staff of Golden Acres in Wynyard for their compassionate and conscientious care. The funeral will be held at St. Margarets Anglican Church in Wynyard on March 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Interment at St. Marys in Copeland. Donations in Kays memory may be made to the Golden Acres Auxiliary Fund.
