Steve Kapeluck passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife at Wadena Hospital on Friday, April 19, 2013. Steve was born on July 24, 1929, in the Fosston area to John and Anela Kapeluck, the oldest of nine children: Tina Nicholot, John Kapeluck, Mike Kapeluck (deceased), Peter Kapeluck, Mary Boszak, Helen Kwitkowski, Andy Kapeluck and Dwayne Kapeluck. When the family moved from Fosston to St. Front, Steve attended school there. When Steve was in grade four his father became ill, which resulted in Steve leaving school to help look after the family farm. He always wished that he could have returned to school. In the spring of 1948 the family moved to a farm in the Clair area. Steve worked on the farm year round until he was 24 years of age, at which time he began working in Winnipeg for a logging crew during the winter months. In 1955 he ventured to Prince George to work at a sawmill hauling slabs away from the mill with a team of horses. When the snow became too deep, he went to Vancouver and found work in the rail yard shovelling coal out of boxcars. On July 21, 1957, Steve married Martha Zuber of High Tor. This union was blessed with five children. In 1964 Steve and Martha moved to their new home in Clair to operate a mixed farm. Never one to be afraid of hard work, Steve worked many long and late hours, loving every minute. It was on this farm that he taught his children the same values. He slowly began to retire in 2002 and then in 2010 Steve and Martha moved into Wadena. From that time a daily drive to check the crops and find out what the boys were doing kept him close to the farm he loved. Besides farming, Steve loved equally to hunt and fish. He enjoyed visiting, playing cards, picking berries, waiting for the return of the purple martins and entertaining his grandchildren with stories of the old days. Steve and Martha enjoyed their winters in Arizona (1994-2010). Steve is survived by Martha, his wife of 55½ years; children, Telka (Glen) Grady, Terry (Marc) Paquette, Terrance (Debbie) Kapeluck, Steven (Heather) Kapeluck and Donald (Debbie) Kapeluck; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
